TV series worth watching...

Had to revive this thread to spread the word about "The Expanse".

Netflix has previous seasons, but it's on Amazon IIRC.

This is the first Sci-Fi show that gets 90% of space physics correct.

No lasers, faster than light travel or teleporters (OK, one but that's a spoiler).



Earth is united and run by the UN.
Mars has been colonized, but declared Independence after a few generations and a war with Earth.
Generations of "Belters" have lived in and mined the asteroid belt, and are hostile towards both "inner" planets.

Currently in season 5.

The first few seasons were so well written that they could have been stand-alone mini-series.

Lots of deep character development, which IMO has been sorely lacking in recent high budget productions.
 
...warning, the guy in the posted video is a bit much, but he knows what he's talking about and you kind of get used to him.
 
I've been reading The Expanse book series for a while. Really good books, if you're into that sort of thing. The TV series stays true to the books, for the most part. I've always thought British crime series are better than American. I find that some of the American shows are ripped off from the British ones. I like Endeavor, Wallander, Shetland, Hinterland and The Tunnel to name a few. I liked Sherlock until they brought in Watson's wife and then tried to have us believe she was a former badass SAS-type...NOPE! The Sherlock Holmes series from the '80's staring Jeremy Brett is still the best.

The Boys on Amazon is really good. And The Umbrella Academy on Netflix.
 
The Expanse started out fine. Then, they did what all the other cancelled series do by adding in meaningless homosexual relationships and all the rest. Ratings will suffer.

The Wife and I started watching it last year and ram-rodded through the three seasons in short order. That is one thing that really sucks about the "Binge watching" habits that many of us have...We get used to watching several episodes in a row then are smacked with reality by having to wait a long time for the next batch of episodes!
 
...and it used to be fun to hear the secretary general drop the F bomb.

Now she does it so often we've made a drinking game out of it.

Still has a great, involved plot line and awesome special effects that are reasonably true to the laws of physics.

Season 5 is better than season 4. They almost lost me with all that time on one planet.

I think the new network added sensationalism. It didn't need it.


When's Endeavor coming back?
 
Expanse has gone a bit woke, but still worth a watch.

Brit stuff, Our Girl. Pretty good but main characters kept coming/going. Decent watch tho.

The Boys, excellent especially Karl Urban.

I couldn't agree more. We shut ours down 7 years ago, my wife doesn't miss hearing me scream at the news idiots every morning

Not really relevant....but it's actually loosely set in the Midlands of England. Not a specific area, or town name mentioned, and that enables the use of fictitious place & road names.

My wife started watching this about 2 weeks ago on Netflix, and I've been listening to bits & pieces. Got a bit more intrigued when I heard "Bob the Builder" Neil Morrissey - aka DC Nigel Morton speaking. :D
The Superintendent in charge of AC12 (Ted Hastings) is Irish hence the probable confusion. :thumbsup:

Once hooked into a series like that, it is hard to not start developing hate for certain characters.....I can't wait to see that Brummie prick 'Matthew Cottan' get his beans. :lol:
