I bought a crank dampener from a member on here last year. He apparently had overstock from manufacturing them. The unit has two detachable weights in it and my questions are:
1) on an internally balanced motor, do you use any or all of the weights and 2) is the piece neutral balanced? The end result is I want to know if I can just replace the existing balancer with this one.

If it is like a balancer I just used on a recent motor, no weights for internal balance, one of the weights for Magnum 360, and the other weight for regular external balance 360. Did the balancer come with instructions? google the part number to find it online, and download the instructions. The balancer will use either no weight or one of the other weights, but NOT both.

Its a big block balancer. There is no "googling" - there is no brand on the balancer as these were what was left at the end of a production run. I'll have another look in the box for instructions but don't recall any being there.

If it is a big block balancer, no weights for a steel crank standard weight rod engine. The other two weights are for a cast crank/externally balanced engine, and a "sixpack" heavy rod engine.
Do you know what's inside yours? If you have a steel crank non"heavy" rod engine, just use your new damper without any added weight.

I know exactly what's inside so that's not an issue. Was hoping the seller would chime in. He did have quite a few for sale at one time.

I have the members name on the box. The weights are "off" and I now recall taking them off so I must have had the question answered at some point in the past (old age sucks!). Here's the unit:

On a big block, no weights on internal balance steel cranks(383 & 440) except heavy rod 440 6 Pak(special damper), external weight on cast crank 400, different external weight on cast crank 440. Not sure about 360's.

I didn’t sell it To him. I had a few. They were left over from Hemi crate motors. I can look and see if the one I have has any instructions.

I bought two of those balancers. No weights for internal balance engine.

Mine came with some red Loctite and instructions to remove the screws holding the blue plate on, and re-install then with the red Loctite.

I think you did sell it to me. You shipped it to me in Carlisle last year. You sent it to Cumberland, Pa. Doesn't really matter tho'.

If you need them you can have my weights.

I bought the same balancer from moparsteve636. Came with SFI card, red loctite and instructions hand written to use the locktite on the weight screws. No other directions...Didn't use it because with my set-up I can't see the numbers from the driver's side...
