I finally got the parking brakes on my Dana axle and come to find out the darn parking brake pedal is messed up. I can press the parking brake pedal down but it doesn't stay down, you can hear it clicking as it goes down, but it comes right back up. Is it possible for the ratcheting arm or whatever the pedal is engaging as it's going down to be worn out? Or is there a way to adjust the pedal inside the car? Or do I have to purchase a whole new parking brake pedal assembly?

Sounds like the latch pawl May be stuck pull the kick panel and lube it up some to get it working

Maybe, most of the time they are broken in my experience and require a bit more work to get them to function properly.

Push the handle release toward the firewall at the same time you push the pedal. If it stays then the spring on the handle needs work.

There’s a spring on the pawl and on the release handle. The pawl pivot is at the top of the assembly near where it bolts to the firewall and the spring for the pawl is hidden. I would try lubing it up good and working the release and pawl It would save time to just pull the assembly and clean and lube or repair if needed.

Pretty common problem in these old cars, really. PITA to remove the thing, too.
Ask me how I know. :)
Mine wound up broken as Scott described. I bought a good used one from another

Anybody know of a good source for Dana 60 parking brake parts believe it or not I have a Dana 60 in my 64 Impala and I love it so I'm not taking it out but I'd love to have an emergency brake the 64 pedal is still intact but I'm not sure what I've got inside of my drums but I'd love to have that working
