Hi Everyone -

After 33 years of not owning a Mopar, I decided to return to my roots.

Having been in high school during the late-'70s / early-'80s.... and being one of those guys who only graduated due to the fact we had an auto shop.... my friends and I all had access to a wonderful assortment of great muscle cars at incredibly low prices. Just in my close circle, there were two '69 Charger R/Ts (both with 440 - one auto and one manual), a '68 Charger (383 auto), a '68 Barracuda (318 auto), and bunch of Mustangs, Camaros, and other assorted hooligan machines. I'm sure our parents had no idea the weight, power, and lack of brakes that us kids were playing with out on the highways!

I bought my first Mopar (and first car) when I was 15-1/2 yrs old - without telling my parents. It was a '69 Charger SE (383 auto) in T5 Copper Poly with tan interior and a white vinyl roof. The kicker - I paid all of $175 for it with just a little rust in the lower quarters. Shortly after that, I added a '68 Charger (base) as a parts car, then a '73 Duster (slant-six with three speed manual on the floor), and years later a re-do of the long-gone-by-then Charger when I picked up a '69 Charger R/T clone with a bench seat, column shift, and transplanted 440.

Sadly, all of those Mopars are now gone, though I'd love to find that first car someday. But, the good news is that I'm finally in a position where I can begin the search for a new-to-me Charger. Although my first love was that '69, I've always been partial to some of the unique features of the '68, so I'm looking at both years. My hope is to find a decent survivor, but I won't rule out the right restored example.

Anyway, looking forward to lurking around here a bit and getting up-to-speed on the market and the aftermarket support available, along with scouring the classifieds here and elsewhere for my dream car.

Welcome Steve.
You're looking for a rare car these days.
Be patient and have some cash...
Hopefully you get lucky soon.

I am suspicious about your screen name. He drove the Ford.
Welcome to the forum.

Welcome back! Good luck! You’ll find one!

Busted - I've been in the blue oval camp all these years, playing with first generation Mustangs and building a Factory Five Racing replica of the '65 Shelby AC Cobra.

Here's the current car - I did everything except for sewing the seat covers and spraying the clear (my buddy with the body shop where I painted it said he didn't want to have to sand out all the runs I'd cause).

Also attached is a pic of Mrs. McQueen's '67 Camaro. I've never been much of a GM mechanic, but I've managed to keep this one running (and actually improved it a bit) over the past ten years - it's a clone, but with a date-correct 396 and M-21 4-speed. Despite her dubious taste in cars, I definitely married up.

Welcome from Pa!!
Be patient grasshopper, and have lots of cash handy. $175 will get you a headlight switch. ...... maybe
I too remember the good old days, Mustangs were $500, SS Camaros were maybe $750, but Roadrunners were expensive.....$900.
I remember buying "winter beaters" for $50:thumbsup:

Welcome from Alabama, been in the Mopar corner since 67, except for a run of Vettes. Glad you are back to your roots.

Nice rides you have there, if not slightly inferior. ;-)
A '68 Charger, you say? Cubic dollars, my man. Understand that going in.
Whatever you're used to paying for parts for that Ford or Chevy, just figure
on DOUBLE or better for the same part for a Mopar and you'll be close.

Hey, Mopars ain't for everybody. You gotta love the self-abuse! :)

glad your here and good luck.

Welcome aboard. I'm the same vintage with many of the same memories. Luckily, I've been able to stay in the Mopar game. I hope you find a Charger that makes you happy. My 1st one was a 68 Charger R/T/

Let me be the first to say I feel sorry for you....
BECAUSE MOPARS ARE ADDICTIVE.:poke:
:welcome:

Welcome to FBBO from SoCal - lots of fish in the sea as long as you have money and time in healthy portions. Good luck!

Welcome aboard from Ohio, my kids are only a little older than you.

Welcome from Missouri!! What a story!! Had several mopars, then went GM. Came back about two years ago. I truly believe that owning a mopar is a level above the rest. You can buy a new first generation Camaro in a parts catalog, everything you need!!! That not the case here. I love many GM cars and yes, Camaros are sweet, but there's nothing like the sound of the starter on a Chrysler product and the only cars in the world that can get away with lime green, purple, yellow or orange. Good luck on your next Mopar!!! ... Let The Horses Run.
