Stock 318 motor. Upgraded to electronic ignition, and electronic voltage reg. Headers. I just picked up an edelbrock 4 barrel manifold. I have a good Holley 3667 (67’ 440 carb w/ 570cfm) I also have access to an edelbrock 1406 carb. Both I’m working condition.
Which would be better on the 318?
Anything special need to be done to the edelbrock for throttle linkage and trans kick down?

thanks
Dan

Perhaps consider a Holley model 4160 R-1850 ~ 600 CFM or CARTER 4294S carb as used on a 273 HP engine, OR a small AVS used on early 340's. Holley's have been around for a long time; like wise so has Carter, now msrketed by Edelbrock (aka "Eddy's"---not sure why) and Weber. They're easy to tune for your application. DO NOT OVER CARBURATE...IMO nothing over 600 CFM. The stock 318 has small valves and a low compression ratio. The cam, rear gear ratio spark advance characteristics, weight of car also effect performance. Others will have differing opinions....Holley vs Carter/Edelbrock/Weber....you either love them or hate them.....
