I’m thinking of joining Facebook but don’t know anything about it other than general stuff. My absolute only source of social media is FBBO. I’m retired and looking for more social outlets so I thought FB May be the way to go. Not looking for a lot of clutter but more opportunities to stay or get connected with people. How about you? How long and why did you join? Benefits? Thx in advance for posting.

My daughter and daughter in law post lots of pics of the grandkids. That’s my main reason for Facebook.

it's pretty much useless to me. the search engines suck and there's a lot of scamming going on if you are looking to buy stuff. it can be useful to stay in touch or reconnect with people you know, but that's about it. there's a lot of keyboard warriors that know everything about everything in some of the groups.

Facebook is a great way to reconnect with old friends, as well as getting a snapshot of the highlights of their lives.

There are Mopar (and 1000s of other) groups available too.

I also use the groups to schedule reunions.

I'm a big fan of FB. If I was to design a social media site, I wouldn't change a thing.

I've also had success buying and selling on FB marketplace.

I have no time nor use for it. Some say that it's a great way to reconnect with old classmates and childhood friends, but there's usually reasons why we haven't kept in touch with each other for decades.

no, never even thought about it. it's for "young guys and girls( going to school ) "

The kids are on Instagram. I join car groups mostly. The good thing is you can customize your page to show your interests. There are groups for everyone. The bad things are that it can really be a time waster and don’t like the adds. Try it, you can always pull the plug if u don’t like it

Totally agree. Never had the desire to sign up. I don't really need to see what someone is having for dinner to get through life. FBBO is all I need.

I joined it to track down a cousin we hadn't heard from in 25 years...and also to secretly contact my wife's best friend from school to arrange a surprise 50th party.

Other than that, it has become a bigger consumer of my time directly after FBBO....one of them had to go, so I actually pulled the plug last night after continually being incensed by the Spam, junk advertising and 'suggested friends' lists. I also had a message from a fellow member here who asked his friends to remove him from their contacts so that he wouldn't get any tracing through one of the many Covid-19 Tracking Apps.

I resisted joining FB for many years, and having grabbed the info I need, I'm out. :)

If my friends need to know my current 'status', they can do it the old fashioned way....pick up the phone, or drop around and say Hi.

I don't want no part of it, if there are people on there I haven't seen for many years, there's a reason for that!

I am not on it.
My daughter in law posts pics of my grandson on it.
I often wonder if people stop to think about all the wack jobs out there in cyber space and what they do with the pics they find??

I have a page for the shop and another for another business interest. Its a nice way to get contacted w/o giving out your phone number to every idiot on the block. Also you have to take it with a grain of salt. BIGS don't agree w all the **** on here at times either. But here I am....

I am on it for Market Place and many car groups. Made several great contacts on there.

Joined up probably 10 years ago and been down hill ever since. Mainly joined to stay in closer contact with my kids who are now in their late 30's. One of them doesn't get on anymore though so it's phone texts. I also keep in touch with old school buddies and retired co-workers. These days the phone isn't something I like talking on. Everyone has a cell phone and so many have lousy reception and dropped calls and all that is a pita. I can also listen to the business news while typing :D

Was on it for about 5 yrs, mainly for family. …..But all the crap pix got to be too much. (Example) An old friend sent a pic of a frog sitting on his deck railing. :D

Been on FB for going on 11 years. I've kept up with friends all over the country, new and old.
Family members, too - great for grandkids and such.
It's very useful to keep track of events locally, government functions, community stuff.
Tons of Mopar stuff, too. Same deal, gives access to all manner of car groups, events, stuff for sale.
Most all manufacturers and shows and so forth maintain a presence on FB, giving you access to them easily.

If you run an ad blocker on FB, there is no intrusive ads at all - like here.
Further, you control who can and cannot "see" you on there; I've got mine set to "friends and family" only.
I'm quite active on FB, but you'd have to be on my list to know that.
If someone not on my list wants to contact me, they have to send an invitation, which I can approve or deny.
It's got its' share of issues, sure, but properly set up, I never have any.
