hello everyone, I use the tag ssaa, all the older drag racers will know that one. I have been a chevy guy most of my life [77]years. however in the early days I had a few Plymouths, [1]47 sedan, [2] 47 coupes, 40 coupe with a 322 Buick, and a 57 Belveder with a 392 dual quad hemi. From there it was on to Corvettes, and Chevrolets. I have always had a liking for the mid 60's Plymouth \Dodge cars , so this past fall I got a 1964 Sport Fury. It has been restored very nicely , [a little resto mod ] but not much. Being more qf a purist I want to bring it up a little. My first two questions, [ 1] engine id ? here are the no's,casting on block 6 \17\66, block casting 25364308, no's on pad at front, c440 followed by what looks like a Maltese cross, , below that is [11 space 17 hp]. Thank you for any help that you can provide, I'm certain that I will need more help , at least that's whatmy wife says. Thank you very much .

You have a 67 440 with a 11/17/66 build date. It's a 10 under engine. There were no VIN numbers on a 67 440.

By the way welcome from Alabama, good choice in a B body Mopar.

Welcome from Michigan, the Motor City! 440'

Welcome from KC area. WOW, when I was in College, I bot a 64 Sport Fury. It had a 361, 4spd with Factory Tac. MAN, did I love running that thing though the gears. I wish you luck and hope that I can help in any way. Best, B.

Welcome aboard from Ohio. I drove a'63 4-dr that was my dads. Very nice years.

Welcome! The Maltese cross could also mean .001 under main or rod journal. Assuming nobody been in there. Here's a picture of the outside of a counter weight. The crank has main journal 5 and rod journals 5/6 and 7/8 .001 under. To the right of the 5 is M for main.

Welcome from Missouri!! Sounds like a great car!!

Jerry thank you for the info.,What tells you that it's a 10 under motor, and why would the factory build it that way? Also what does hp designate, and is it any better or worse than an rb block ?

You said that HP was on the pad. The maltese cross indicates the 10 under. Also the HP in 67 indicates the 375 horsepower engine with the 915 big valve heads. This is provided your engine is all original. Once a engine has been rebuilt or things done that is all out the door. What I'm telling you is how the engine was born 11/17/1966.
