Rats hate the smell of lavender?

I use this peppermint stuff that comes mixed in with what reminds you of rough cut saw dust. Comes with fabric bags that have draw strings. Fill up small bags and they are good for about 3 months. Use them in car and camper. Always smells like Christmas, but every time I get to drive an old car I feel like a kid at Christmas so it’s all good

You can also use essential oils on cotton balls, but I don’t picture you as an essential oil guy Cranky

never tried that

bounce dryer sheets for the moisture
don't really have a bad moisture issue for that matter
& I don't have any mouse or rat problems
maybe they work on mice/rats too

now gophers are a completely different story
but they don't go near cars/trucks :poke:
just my bushes & the neighbors lawns

I got an Idea :p
lavender scented Bounce dryer sheets
kill two (birds) moisture/rats with one sheet (stone) :D

Most pests also don't care for coffee.

I take the dregs in the bottom of the can and just throw them into the corners of the shop.

You can also use the brewed ground remains, but that's a lot more messy.

I heard that pests, including rats, hate peppermint. I've tried it to get rid of spiders and ants in the house, and I can't say it's an effective solution unless you place pots with fresh mint all over your place.

Well I've had women tell me I'm a rat.. And I don't like the smell of lavender so maybe they were on to something....

I can tell you for a fact that rats are scared of guinea pigs.....or hamsters.

Not saying that keeping guinea pigs in a car is a great idea.

I do dryer sheets as well. Put them in the glovebox, trunk, spare tire well in trunk, under seats, in consoles, whatever. So far no issues. Haven't had an issue regardless of brand either.
I keep the hood open on cars inside in storage for winter.
Supposedly, if you put some in your pockets mosquitos stay away but I have never tried that.

Irish spring soap works for me but I told this to my son on same property and he had opposite results. They ate the soap , pooped green all over and went on with there annoying business.
I don't get it.
Dryer sheets in the cars does help I agree.

I don't think rats/mice care about anything other then shitting all over the place

I had a mouse in my car last year, 1st time in 17+ years here...
Found a lil' nest in the trunk from torn-up paper towels, no other signs...
(I also leave the A12 hood off & trunk open too, I saw dropping on
that blanket under the hood, I keep on top of the car.... gross
)
I still have the dryer sheets in there too...
Never could find the mouse, but I put bait out for them too...
Never found a carcass...
I 'accidentally' locked one of the neighbors, Darren's cat 'Flick' in my garage,
for a couple days...
I haven't seen any signs of the mouse (or mice) anymore either...

We have 40 open acres right behind me & an open easement right next to me...
prime mouse habitat (squirrel & gopher, all kinds of wildlife on that land too)

We have a crapload of cats around here now,
5 just in the direct neighbors, all outside cats
several more I see too, that I have no idea from where or who's...
1 directly across the street Tommy's cat
1 to my left side Darren's cat (he had 2 one got eaten by coyotes)
& 1 guy Damon & his young daughter, right across the street to the right
has 3 outside cats, I see them stalking/hunting stuff all the time...

Well, it certainly hasn't helped the cry babies got D-Con made illegal.
I tried some of the "new approved" Tom Cat and fed something half the pail, never found a mouse, before chucking the rest and pulling my last cardboard flat of D-Con out. Hey what do you know, like two nuggets gone and a dried up mouse found a week later under my east bench.
I grew up farming, and I have never, even once, seen or found another animal dead despite the flats being all over the farm. Cat's are not that stupid. If a squirrel got into where this stuff was put out, you didn't want it in there anyway
