1968 Roadrunner refresher

Thx for the info
Looks like my rear glass is urethaned in which is going to make it difficult and the glass company’s are not guaranteeing anything

Just get in between there with a razor knife like an "A" blade knife and keep working it between the glass and sealant. It is your best shot in cutting through. Once you get most of the way, have someone inside the car just lightly push not shove and break the glass to aid in your cutting. You can also get a thin putty knife in there once it starts letting go and pry up slightly but be careful you don't stress and crack glass.

I am always interested in new "magic tools"????? :D

So after ripping a toilet out and resealing it today I got a little time to push the car outside and do some more stripping. Everything is basically stripped on the exterior other than the roof and the tops of the doors. I’m waiting to do the doors once I get the vent windows and frames out so I don’t hit them by mistake.

Body looks very good....you are ahead by far if you have very little rust to repair........MO

I did 2 or 3 cars in Centari back then and sure was unhappy with how it performed. Would look great for a couple months and then just 'die'. Gloss would fade and orange peel would come out. I'd done one car in black and it looked great. Put it away for the winter and come spring it looked like hell. DuPont rep came out and said it should buff out again.

I told him I wasn't happy with their solution and switched suppliers. Never had the problem again and never used their paint again, regardless of brand name.

Yours looks to have held.up in gloss pretty well. Love the car. Thanks for posting.

Yea I’m going chromobase and a good clear now with it. It’ll look awesome when done and can’t wait to spray it on and step back.

Thinking because I have no numbers matching and its just a driver I am going to do a color change. I am going to go with QQ1 on the exterior and keep the blue interior. I like the color way more than the original EE1, which can look almost purple when sprayed wrong or mixed wrong. It'll be like below but with dog dishes. Same as the GTX, minus the GTX badging and trim obviously. What do you all think? I think the interior and exterior colors go awesome together and pop more than the EE1 too! Love that 68 QQ1 color!

Is the EE1 blue in 68 different than the same color in 67. Your car in the picture doesn't look as dark as my 67 EE1 car

Originally the color is this on the car. They modified it a touch with more metallic but that was back 1986'ish when it was painted. I am thinking of going with the QQ1 in the above pics. Here is the original car before I stripped it. I have seen several different shades of it too depending which plant and year. It's like any color in the 60's from different plants....seems so many shades depending on day time and such haha.

My personal opinion only, but I don't like how EE1 has almost a purple flip to it at times because of the hue and darkness of it. Most I have seen flips to blueish purple when its in different lighting, and I wanna avoid that. Mine did not but it was altered a touch to avoid that. Just after starring at it for 15 years, I am thinking now is the time to change the color if ever. I have always loved QQ1 and am leaning that way.

Both are beautiful colors. I'm not trying to imply that you change your mind. I was just noticing the difference in your car now as compared to mine.

Oh no worries man I get what you were looking to point out. I am just thinking aloud and know you have the eye for that color as you had one yourself. I keep leaning towards that QQ1 man....It's always been a favorite of mine.

With the light shining on the front of mine to me it looks more like your car now.

I ordered a new Roadrunner in 1968 with the QQ1 electric blue paint. I am doing a tribute car to it , just got it pained a little over a week ago. Same color. I found that color was a one year only color ( for whatever reason) and it is hard to come up with the correct formula. I was told it was because paint is mixed with different materials than it was then. Don't try to color match with a faded paint chip chart that is 50+ years old.......................Good luck.............MO

Got some more mud work done today and removed door glass and tail pieces. Close to primer for sure!

Also....I figured out I am going with the original EE1 color myself as well. Had it mixed up last week and going to do a spray out this week on it to ensure my choice, but I am 98% sure I am sticking with the original EE1 over the QQ1. The original QQ1 formula was only available in Deltron DBU which is being discontinued, and he only had enough to do a quart and then try and color match it with a camera (that's if I even liked the color it produced). I don't need another color debacle like I had on my yellow 68 Charger, so I have decided that the original shade is a great color and I am sticking with it. I have seen some QQ1 formulas I don't care for so not going to mess with it. @Jerry Hall, I believe the 68 color is a bit different in formulas as they listed differently. There is more blue and less purple tint in the 68 version as you'll see in my sprayout when I do it this week. It's damn close, but I have seen a few 68's now and see the difference in the color which is subtle but enough to make me go for it.

Hi, I'm late to the game with this thread - you have a great car! So many of us wish for a car in the shape yours is in!

I like that you are sticking with EE1. It will have some contrast between the body and interior, but still compliment each other. EE1 would be my pick, but of course, the only preference that matters is yours!

Good luck with the project - I'm sure it will look great when done.
