Picked up an old B&S motor a couple of days ago and....

A friends dad put a vertical shaft Briggs and the flying disc transmission from a Snapper riding lawn mower onto a go kart. He had it locked out of 4th and 5th because it would go too fast. Pretty cool because it had neutral and reverse.

I got mine from my Uncle. They were on farm weed mowers. 3.5 horse from what I remember. The go cart guys would shave the heads and hop them up and get 15+ horse out of them on alcohol.
....holy crap! Man, those suckers must have hauled ***....

Took a 6 hp Tecumseh and stuck on a straight pipe (yeah, that's pretty much my MO), took out the choke blade and shaft and did a bit of cleaning up the ports and made sure the carb was matched and that little engine responded way more than I thought it wood!

This ain't your Grandpa's Briggs & Stratton!

Got one of those motors in the late 90's. It was new never assembled but my youngest wasn't interested in drag racing anymore so it got traded off. Forgot about that thing.....

That is adorable!

yep those Tecumseh's
I think they were rototiller engines org.
I think they were slightly taller too, longer stroke (?)
take the gov. off, 2 times the power "Wahoo"
something like 5-7hp stock IIRC,
also they were a lot heavier IIRC big Iron crank cases,
compared to the 2hp to 3.5hp B&S's
(my stepdad Bob had a few of them laying around)
some had slotted holes, same bolt pattern
(I think as the smaller B&S engines)
they were the go engines
to replace for more power on my Taco 22 or 44 mini-bikes
& no name Go-carts too

I had kicked rods out the front side of every
Briggs & Stratton engine I had

2 stroke McCullough
I had a home brew/garage built (stepdad Bob was a pipefitter)
shifter go-cart with 2 Mac 101's
it was flat out fast & dangerous, like 90mph dangerous

& Rotax (pricy fuckers)
my stepdad Bob was a small engine guy
I never got into them as much
& I really liked Motorcycle, MX dirt-bikes
or big 1 lungers 2 strokes/desert bikes
3 wheelers & then Quads
& then at about 14-15 or so, I got into cars/dunebuggies,
left that small engine (especially 4 strokes) stuff behind
still played with the 2 strokes, Motorcycles & Quads

When my kids were young, I got back into the yard carts and modified mine. At the time we owned the 1/2 acre lot next door and created a 900 foot kidney shaped track using the easement that was behind the house and lot. Probably had around 1 full acre of track. One day we had 7 carts out here when a buddy came over with his 3 kids and 3 carts and with my 3 and another buddy with his 1. Neighbors hated it lol

I built an MX track for my son an I. Some afternoons there would be 5 or more bikes tearing it up, even more on Saturdays and Sundays

Jr Dragster engines are PRICEY ! Over $6000 for one that runs on alcohol.
And we complain about the price of our Mopar engines.:realcrazy:
