Hi guys!

I'm in a little deeper on this '74 Charger than I thought I was gonna have to go lol.

I have mirrors, chrome, side window louvers, turn signals, etc that need hardware that was missing when I took the project on. How do you guys go about figuring out diameter/length/thread pitch on missing hardware to replace some of this stuff?

Also is there maybe a resource y'all know of where I can order it as a kit that I haven't found yet? It was pretty easy to find the interior hardware set for this car, but no luck on the exterior stuff. Attached is how she looks now, more or less.

Nice car. I have a '73 SE. I could take some pictures and measurements of what you need.
Post some pictures of what you need hardware for.

Take your stuff to Lowes/HD and try fasteners until you find what works, or use their reference test plates in the fastener aisle.

The do have an automotive fastener section but it's not complete.

on mirrors...

Normally they use a backing plate like this:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Mopar-Cuda...246286?hash=item593ec5e64e:g:kTAAAOSwn~Jd6rSZ

Hold by a plastic "pine tree" plugs

screws for them are available too

https://www.ebay.com/itm/70-74-Cuda...113528?hash=item592738a6f8:g:0e4AAMXQWuRQ9Xto

however you can also use the system used on 70 E bodies

https://www.ebay.com/itm/70-74-Mopa...907705?hash=item5927911079:g:IMgAAOSwd0BV1RwP

which gets a nutsert instead the backing plate. Sure the backing plate provides a better surface support for the mirror

The tough part about some of this is when something bolts directly into the car- though I don't see why they wouldn't let me go back and forth from the parking lot once I get this thing running.

That would rule! Thank you- I'll take stock in the next couple of days and see what's what. I am positive I'll need the hardware for the side window louvers; I just picked up a really nice set off of ebay- if yours has the louvers, some pics of that hardware would help a lot

Thanks for the hot tip; I'll be ordering those this week for a certainty

You know, I think maybe some of those mirror brackets are in the pile of parts that came with this thing, and I just had no idea what they were. Thanks for the helping hand- one less anonymous piece of car in the pile lol

you might also consider buying 1 each of the different common size bolts.

maybe 1 or 2 inches long.

that way you can test size (and maybe even thread pitch) without needing to take the car with you.

it would be the start of a stockpile and only cost a couple bucks.

I found these in my parts bin, thanks for letting me know what they are!

yeah- Maybe I can just order a common, catch-all hardware kit of Standard nuts, bolts, screws, so this sort of snafu doesn't snag my project. Thank you for the advice

With the plate you can find at a hardware store the propper screws. JUST one detail on this is I THINK the oval head is a bit smaller for these to fit into the mirror provision than the regular comercial hardware available. But is about try to fit them. Anyway, the correct ones are available as I showed you. I had to get those from that guy because couldn't find the right oval head size for them in Venezuela.

It happened the same trying to find the fender top turn signals screws, where at a regular hardware shop the correct size selftapping screw was with bigger oval head, BUT on these I got luck, because an old local upholstery shop got me a box with the correct ones.
