Does anyone know if Dougs D451 headers will fit a 440/4 speed with a stock gear reduction starter in a 1968 Roadrunner ?

I am wondering if the only difference between the D451 & D452's is the tube diameter, or if the tubes are actually routed differently for a low deck vs a tall deck.

You could ask the manufacturer?
Mike

Was hoping to get an answer before they open on Monday so that I can get these ordered ASAP.

Header manufacturers are generally vague about fitment anyway.

Hoping someone on here might have hands-on experience.

It's important to get real life fitment experience if possible. The vast number of "home made clearance modifications" are a testament to that.

I have the 451 on my 383 in a 64 Plymouth. They are for the low deck. Still had to give them some pretty good wacks with a hammer and torch to clear pitman arms and so they weren’t touching even a mini starter. The 452 are for tall decks and must be longer tubes since the heads would sit higher up. I really don’t think 451 would fit well on a tall deck since they were super tight on the intended low deck application.

I have the 452's in my Coronet with a 440. They fit nice. My installation was easier than others because the engine and K member were out at the time so I installed the headers on the engine and lowered the body onto the K.

I don't know about the emblem. I was at a Mopar car show a number of years ago and came across this car and took a picture of the emblem. Unfortunately I didn't take any pics of the actual vehicle.

The 451 is specific to the low block. If you used them on a 440 the collectors will probably be to close to the floor. Steering components and frame might be an issue also.

The 452 is for the RB. I'm using the small Dakota starter. Not sure if the factory starter would work. I thought I read that the mini starter was recommended for these headers but I can't find that requirement anywhere.

I am running the D452 headers on my 440 in my '70 Satellite, and a hi torque mini starter. I never tried, but I doubt the full size starter would fit. As it is, I would have to pull the engine if I had to swap out the starter. Also, my headers rubbed against the steering box, and had to be shimmed over. Having gone though what I've gone though with the headers, I would have just done manifolds. But, the Doug's headers fit without bashing the hell out of them, and the quality is excellent. I also didn't need 2" headers, but that's what the engine builder ordered.

Installing the Dakota mini starter using Dougs 452 headers, I unbolted the three bolt flange then all of the header to head bolts and let the header hang on the front stud. Starter comes right out.

curious, with dougs headers or any headers. Do you guys you studs to mount them or bolts? Or combination?

I use bolts lately because aluminum heads have blind holes but, in the past I have used both methods.

Depends on the car. On my 63 there isn't enough room on the passenger side to install the flange if you have studs...

1969 charger, iron heads. I don't think I'm going to install the studs until I make sure there's room to get the clearance I need.

I used a stud at each end and the header bolts in the middle. On the second bolt back the header has to be loose to get the bolt started. Dope them up with Permatex #2 before installing.

If you're using 452 iron heads the flange on the header has to be taypered to clear the ridge on the head.
