Some of you have seen pictures of the car I bought in various other threads. To make a long story short, I bought the car at the end of February, but couldn't get it across the border because there was an error in the serial number on the Title. The DMV was being difficult getting it corrected, and then everything shut down due to Covid. I finally received the corrected Title on Friday, but of course the border is still closed. I have arranged for a transport company to pick it up within the next 2 to 3 weeks. Since the car should finally be home soon, I figured it was time to start my own build thread. This is the picture of the car from the original ad, more to follow.

Here is a picture from the aborted trip home, taken at the Ohio Michigan border. The original tires were about 20 years old, so I bought a set of 17 inch Magnum 500's and new tires and installed them before leaving.

The body is super solid, with no metal replacement that I could find. The paint is 20 years old and is showing its age but it is a good 10 footer. The paint in the trunk is original.

Now the part that I will be tweaking on. The engine is the original 361 which the previous owner added a four barrel to. It is a weird setup with a 76 thermoquad manifold and an adapter to a Carter carb. That will all be coming off as I have a Performer 383 intake and a brand new Street Demon carb to put on. I also picked up a dual snorkel air cleaner which I have restored.

Nice one kind of reminds me of when I bought mine quite original which is very difficult to find.
I hope you upgrade that single master cylinder right away.
I like those Carter Carbs myself, looks like they didn't get the kickdown adjustment right.

From my original inspection, it looks like they just bent the two barrel linkage to make it fit. Surprisingly it worked fine, but I will probably be modifying it. I already have a proper four barrel throttle bracket. I will be changing out the brakes to power front discs, and I am going to be replacing the single point distributor with Chrysler electronic ignition.

Sounds like quite the experience/story you’ll be able to tell for years about getting it home.

Nice car. If you’re changing the intake there are a lot of opinions out there that the performer is not so great, I think some call it the non-performer. Maybe there are others you could look at instead, so you only have to change it once. Holley Street dominator is a really descent one that keeps the profile of it low and original looking (if that’s what you’re going for)

Good luck!

Thanks, I am building this car to be a cruiser, hence the small manifold and carb with small primaries. Hood clearance is an issue, but the other issue is that I am limited in height to be able to fit the support brackets for the factory air. I figure the performer has to be better than a spreadbore manifold with a square bore adapter. Nothing wrong with the carter carb, I actually bought the Street Demon before I even found the car. I will probably sell off the AFB, it looks pretty clean.

Probably not. If it’s just a cruiser don’t bother changing the manifold at all then. You won’t notice a difference enough to make it worth while. Save your money for other upgrades, maybe an A/C recharge. The reason I mentioned the street dominator is that it is low. No real clearance or fitment issues with real performance gains. It’s a good one

Nicely done! Welcome from Saskatchewan. Looks like a really good find. Having brought cars in from the border was a PITA, but add in a vin error with Covid... yeesh.

Yes I ran a Street Dominator on my last engine, and it worked very well, but I wanted a dual plane this time around for more low end torque. I already have the Performer, so it will go on. The stock air cleaner won't fit with the adapter that is currently on there anyway. You should see how they remedied that problem! I will be interested to see what the engine looks like inside when I get the manifold off. Not sure if the heads have ever been off, but it does not smoke at all on start up, so I'm guessing at least the valve seals were done at some point. The rest of the car was so well restored, the whole four barrel conversion looks like it was cobbled together afterwards.

Please add me to the "Now Following" list! I am surprised you did not put this in the "members projects and restorations" page. Looking good so far though, I bet you cannot wait to FINALLY get it home. Would you know what the build date is on the car?

We (as you already saw in my build thread) changed out the factory drums and replaced them with discs. Now I see you will be adding Chrysler electronic ignition, which we will be doing to our Charger as well eventually. Would you know where we could get an ignition kit for a NOT so expensive price?

Good point, I guess I should have posted this under members restorations, but I automatically thought of the 66-67 Charger section. Here is a picture of the fender tag. I have decoded the options and everything matches what is on the car. I have no idea where the build date is.
As far as the electronic ignition is concerned, I actually ended up buying back the one that was on my cuda that I sold. I had spent a lot of time recurving the distributor, so I was glad to get it back.
