Look close at brass on terminal next to #1 see it scraped ? A common occurrence cap not seated it will clip but one will be real difficult to snap. Did that hsppen?

I bought a new cap from napa to start fresh after i discovered the reluctor was installed backwards it already had the scrapes one the edges of the terminal i just assumed that was how it was machined this is my third cap i thought i was getting them on right it snaps easily on both sides. Some times its a pain to remove the bottom side due the the ac bracket being in the way is all

If it's still got the lean burn carb it takes a few mods to make it work with the conversion.

you can click on & go to the Youtube page
& there's a bunch of tech videos there to review too

your coil could be **** too

good luck

Post a picture of your distributor rotor.
I have seen that before. The carbon brush is being burnt away by the high voltage spark arcing. That type of cap uses a rotor with a springy thin contact strip on top of it.
Gently bent the strip up until when you put the cap into position you feel a slight "bounce"
This ensures a good contact between the cap and rotor.
If the carbon brush is a nuked you will need to buy another cap.

Yes that appears to be the correct rotor. You want the cap to push on the spring strip and you will see over time a little round black rub mark appear on the strip.

Stupid question

You said you changed the reluctor / roll pin for counterclockwise direction

I have seen the reluctor not bottomed out completely on the shaft or the roll pin was not entering the shaft slot all the way

Also the rotor not pressed all the way down because the plastic notch is tight

Try this rotor from Napa

Echlin #MO3000

Why were you told you don't need ballast resistor? If using mopar ecu still need a ballast resistor to lower voltage when engine is running.
