Got a quick question. My 67 gtx has a 72 HP 440 in it now. I would like to eventually find a correct block. Build date of the car is 3-6-67. The heads and manifold have a cast date of 2-14-67 (I assume they are from the original engine). What block casting date should I look for? How far in advance were these engines built before assembly of the car?

The stamped build date is more important, and between 1 day and 3 weeks would be perfection. The casting date could be 1 week to several months before the engine build date.

Your left side manifold is a one year only for 67. I would say based on dates your good there. Double check casting part numbers.

Your block should be up to a few months before build date. But really it just needs to be before. I have two 67 R/Ts, on built in late Oct and the other early NOV. Both engines are only about 6 weeks prior on casting and both under two weeks on assembly dates. You would also be looking for 915 heads.
Personally I would just make it looks correct with what you have. These cars don’t financially benefit from number matching or numbers correct IMO. More value in making sure all the right parts are there.

My Hemi block cast 1/19/66 engine build was mid Feb, car schedule build 3/8/66.

Everything on the engine (915 heads, intake, exhaust, carb, ) is correct. The shortblock is marked H440 HP

Agree with R/T Boy on the build date. Mine was cast 13 months prior to being assembled. Not sure why exactly.
