People always asking to buy my car.

At the end of the day, the older I get, the more everything I own can be bought. How much is the question.

If I had a dollar for everytime I heard "My aunt had an old dodge station wagon like this color with a 383 Hemi"....

Got asked by a guy who made Plymouth? I told him GM...

Funny,I have almost never had that happen...my stuff must be too crappy to make an offer on.

Had a guy offer me $25k for my car in 1988/89. At the time a car like mine sold for $80k. That car had disc brakes and power windows. He had the $25k.

EVERYTHING i own is for sale for the right price. Make a good enough of an offer and I'll throw my wife in on the deal as well!!!!!

Last month when down at the lake with the Bee a guy and his wife pulled up and asked "what would it cost to get into a car like that". I told him exactly what I had into it and he quietly put his window back up and drove away....

The truth be told, it's fun to be asked about my car and I get it all the time. The truth also be told, each and everyone one of you love it to!! You guys would be more mad if they walked on by and never looked or asked some of the stupid questions about the cars that we love. Lets be honest here, the attention is a badge of honor and pride. Some of the questions aren't stupid, these people are just uninformed. Does your doctor think you're stupid because he's talking about something you have no idea about when you go for a check up. We drive them for fun and the attention we get!! LET THE HORSES RUN!!

I told one person visiting my building that I would put a price on anything in the building except for my 56 Desoto Wagon. I had to tell him it was my Grandfather's last new car. He asked what if someone offered you 100K for it. I told him to find that person and I could probably get enough therapy to get over it.

Well said... and honest!!!

One way to get around this is to drive 4 doors

Well not necessarily. We were at Home Depot one night and getting in our 4-door hardtop '67 Fury, and some guy (probably drunk or somethin") says I like the car is it for sale? My stepfathers' response was sorry no it is not. The guy says I'll give ya $30,000 for it, and my stepfather says no sorry it means a lot to me my father had one. After that the guy said I understand let me know if you ever wanna sell it, then the guy left. Other than this nobody ever asked if we want to sell any of our cars that I recall

Hmmm, I have had cars that I have helped restore in my garage, with people I love and care about that the $ question got asked about often. My response is like what has already been said above. "This is a car that has a lot of love and caring that went into it. It is not Really Just a car. It is a statement of our adventure through this difficult process. We will keep it, thank you for asking".

On two occasions we did actually sell the cars. My brother and I did a 68 Mustang Cal Special. It was a 1 of 2 cars made with that equipment as determined by Marti (Barn Find). It was a Rotisserie restoration as well. My Brother and I were partners. After about 5-7 years of shows and such a lady from California called him with the "What would it take?" he gave her a number wanting to build a Cobra Replica. She booked it and sent a truck to Missouri within a week. Her father had one like it when she was a young girl. We kept up with the car for awhile and she showed it in Cali (mostly up state) and enjoyed it like or more than we did. Brother and I built the Cobra Replica together. So, Win-Win.

The other sale was a 68 Firebird, Convert, 400, 4spd car. My son and I did that one quickly and well, let's say it was not that great of a job. The car had been hit hard Rider's side Front. We got it back into "driver" condition, but it was not "correct" by any means. As he made his college decision to move far away we sold it to raise money for my personal next build which he helped with before he left for school. So, that one actually went away when the $ question was asked.

Sassy Pants has been in the family since near new (Demo). Dad in Law bought it as their family car. Family took it on lots of vacations pulling a trailer. Wife drove it as her High School Ride. All told, the family put over 159K miles on her before she was parked in the Barn in 1983. Wife and I have worked on the restoration together. She has a Son/Daughter and a Grandson/Granddaughter. It WILL get passed on. So, I will be happy to share the family story when asked that $ question (I suspect when I offer to tell the story, that will be the end of it).

When one does a build with folks we care about/for, the $ are not the issue, are they? I just feel so fortunate to be able to help bring her back to life for the next generations to come. Father in Law has loved the build and helped at age 80. It puts a big smile on his/my face to see him enjoy it. When the 9 year old grandson comes out and sees just how a Car works, Priceless.

Thank you to Team FBBO for helping me with this project that allows for a stronger bond to be built in our family. It is fun, frustrating, wonderful, exhausting, and NO it will NOT be for Sale, but I will thank them for asking. :). Best, B.

YEah that’s another peeve. They always say nice GTO.

Had some fun with the attention. There were times where I just ran with it and played along then would ask them to take a closer look and if they thought it was still a (fill in the blank), they needed some help.

The money and time we put into restoring a car and the added effort to make it just the way you want it, endless garage hours, rarely will get you what you put into it. Some have said on this forum if you're doing a car to make a profit on good luck, and I agree. I might be able to sell my Plymouth for around half what I got in it not including the countless garage time. On another note, I swore that I'd never sell a cherished car to anyone within 100 miles. I had a sweet '67 GTO vert, all optioned mint. The schmuck I sold it to ran it into the ground and got to see its demise when I'd see in town. First the rear end was caved in, next the front. Never washed. One time I saw it in a parking lot at a strip mall and stopped to look at it. He was in the store and his girlfriend was sitting in it with her dirty feet plucked on the dash. Trash strewn inside it like it was a garbage can. It pissed me off. Well he comes trotting back and I look at him and said "What the **** have you done to my car, when I sold it you could eat off the gas pedal!" He says "Ahh it ain't your car anymore." Some months later I spotted it for the last time sitting in a dealer's junk lot. I went in and made an offer and the MF's wanted $150 bucks less than when I sold it mint! Pathetic...

If people asking if your car is for sale is the biggest irritation in your life, you've got it pretty good. Enjoy the compliment, smile, and drive on.

It's the ones that don't take no for an answer and continue to dig that are the problem. If someone says "nice car, is it for sale" and then just talks about it without the hairyassment of crap like saying "everyone has a price......" and on and on, then it's all good.

If I was in a rush to get somewhere and didn't have time to talk I used to tell people "it's my brother's car, I'm not really into this stuff." Worked every time.
