Ok. My engine is tired in my Sport Fury.
I know there's been bad press about Indy.
But, they were sold recently. Maybe last couple years. Have they improved since being bought? I'm looking at the 600 HP stroker, 440 based 2 four barrel engine. Would you buy from them? No? Who would you buy from for a complete stroker? Thanks in advance.

Muscle Motors,Knowltons Thunderheads and racing engines. I had Indy rebuild a set of their hemi roller rockers and had a poor experience with customer service. It only takes once with me and I move on. Lots of other good builders out there.
Just be prepared to wait a while for your motor at any good place.

Muscle Motors closed a couple years ago. I have one of their engines, I commissioned, that I have not installed or run.

Oh crap, didn't know that. sorry.

I've been using ICH "Indy" parts with no problems. I have rotating assemblies and heads cams etc from them. Cris and Charlie Wheatcraft bought the business last year. TheyAre mopar racers and great people. As for engine building, I use a local friend that's been in business since 1963 and a former mopar racer as well. I would recommend finding a builder to work with in your area, and also be prepared to wait in line at aany shop doing good work. Ruffcut

Blueprint Engines, lots of good reviews! I believe there also a sponsor. 440'

Knowlton's Thunderheads Racing Engines is building my 440 and transmission right now. The average wait is like 6 mos. They were down 3 wks.

Had some negative experience with a crate engine from Indy... valvetrain issues, rockers coming apart, dropping a valve... bad times for a $25,000 engine

That's just crazy. Some of these companies should be ashamed of themselves. Whatever happened to pride in workmanship. They have no passion, only to make a buck.

I guess my reasoning is, I'm getting older, and I'm trying to save myself the hassle of dealing with machine shops. I have found them a pain in the ***. But that was about 18 years ago. I'm capable of assembling an engine, but I like the idea of having a dyno tested, complete engine.

You may have to prepare yourself to embrace the suck once again.

This is just what I'm afraid of.
I was hoping that they have improved since the new owners took over.

they have definitely improved. RUSS IS GONE. russ was out the door on friday, the 1st day of the indy swap meet this past march. i spent some time with chris wheatcraft on friday and saturday and things are 100 % better than they were with russ there. lots more new stuff coming all the time. they are mopar racers and have spent the money to buy the business and turn it around. ask some of the guys that are dealers for ich now. bet they will tell you a lot has changed including quality, turn around, support and especially phone service. chris is on facebook and you can contact him on there.

rollin thunder, how long ago did your problem happen? prior to march or after march this year?
