Anybody Know What The Hell This Thing Is?

No mine came out of local guys 68 GTX that hit a Caddy so hard it spun it 180*. Cracked the driver side exhaust manifold on the Hemi.

Hi All,

Does anybody know what the hell this thing is? This came from our 1966 Charger that is being restified at this time, here is the build if anyone want to see it..... https://www.forbbodiesonly.com/moparforum/threads/so-it-begins-1966-charger-restification.182338/. The piece says F E on it, and car was a California car all its' life so could it be something for emissions in CA? That is what I originally thought since it says F E. Does anyone think this piece is at all important? We are NOT going to reuse it anyway but I am just wondering what the hell it is before we toss it out in the trash.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks everyone.

If you care, there is an NOS one listed in the For Sale section. I believe by Halifaxshops.

Here's the link: NOS parts

IMO...
The device advances the spark advance, via the distributor's vacuum advance diaphragm (aka "Dizzy"), typically used on manual transmission vehicles. The purpose was to insure lean mixtures were burned during deceleration (closed throttle), by advancing the spark to maximum, by applying manifold vacuum, which is high during deceleration. When the manifold vacuum drops to normal after the decel event ends, the valve reverts to the normal distributor advance source.
