Pinhole in vert top operating cylinder how to fix? Weld?

JB weld might take care of that if you can make sure the surface area is clean an dry. I’d be very reluctant to mig or tig weld on anything that had hydraulic fluid in or near it.

Excellent, logical ideas. I think I have some JB W close by! Thanks to all.

Epoxy a metal patch over it. Make it fit the round shape of the cylinder. Clean Clean clean.

I’m still not a fan of jb weld, sorry. It might be just a person Hangup, but it doesn’t last very good. In my experience.

It would have to be completely clean from oil for any JB or epoxy to stick.

Any pictures of the hole.

J B Weld needs edges (scratches and gouges) to get hold of. I've used it many times with success but the edges MUST BE THERE or it will turn loose. A reinforcement patch would be the better choice if room exists. Use J B Weld under and around the patch.

The hole is in the cylinder, which is under 300+ psi. The rod moves both ways, so up, and down, yes pressure!

Excellent, thanks. Appears to be exactly correct. I assume the end is threaded, so i can screw on my U shaped yoke. Another supplier had no luck. If i can't fix mine, will buy from you. Thanks again.

R413 has the right idea. With that pressure JB weld would work but only if it was also reinforced. You will need to drain the fluid if you are going to be repairing it in the vehicle Like Gold Rush said rough up and clean the patch contact areas to promote adhesion. I would also put a wide hose clamp over the top of it after it's patched. Belzona 1111 epoxy for engine block repair and fiber tape would be your best epoxy option but it's crazy expensive and worth every penny in the right application. I'm guessing your part new would cost less. Just be careful you don't get any epoxy in the cylinder. You can use Vaseline in a hypodermic needle to create a dam at the bottom of the hole to keep the epoxy from dropping down where you don't want it to go but do not touch the sides of the hole or the contamination will cause it to fail. Afterwards replace the fluid and cycle the top a few times and change the fluid again. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

My 63 Sport Fury convert also had a pin hole in the top cylinder, took it to a guy who knew how to weld aluminum. Its been good now for about 10 years!!
