73/74 rear 4spd shifter location? Pics?

Hello everyone. Just curious if any 73/74’s
RR/ Satty’s used the rear shifter mounting location on the tail shaft for a 4spd? Not sure if 71/72’s are the same. I have a 74 Satty that I’m in the beginning stages of converting to a 4spd, bucket seat,
NO council. Ordered the tunnel from Brewers, he recommended getting the rear location hump. I know I’ve seen pics of forward mount with buckets no council and the shifter bends back towards the driver. Just wondering if anyone has knowledge or even pics of rear mounted shifter, bucket seat, no council. Thanks for any reply’s

Every non console 71-74 B-body I've seen over the years was in the forward location, bucket and bench seat. Having owned cars with the shifter in both locations, I prefer the rear mount position with the short pistol grip handle for the shorter throw and faster shifting. IMO, it would look fine in the rear position without a console and just a boot.

Here is my 72 conversion with rear mounter shifter, no console. I agree with Outlaw on the benefit of the short shifter.

Even on non console cars, the shifter was bolted to a plate that put the shifter in between the two mounts.

I am pretty sure that 73/74's used the rear mount like an E body. Not sure that "plate" is being referred to but the only plate I remember is the shifter mounting plate but it positions the shifter directly over the 3 mounting bosses on the trans. Now, I could be wrong as it is been awhile since I working on a 73/74 B body, but thats how I remember it.

This is the shifter and bracket that I have seen on the non console 71-74 cars that I have owned and worked on. It pushed the shifter back between the pads on the tranny and above the crossmember.

Interesting and good to know. The last 73/74 I worked on was my 74 RR but it was a console car.

If that pushes the shifter back from the front mounting location, how does it utilize the rear mounting location? Does that plate bolt to both locations and the shifter then mount to the plate? I apologize for my lack of knowledge.

Plate in post 8 is for the front mount location and long shifter.

We had this discussion a while back:

Bench seat- forward mount.
Buckets and buddy seat- forward mount.

Buckets and console- rear mount.
Buckets and nothing- rear mount.
