im looking to have a 383 4 barrel engine rebuilt. Ran when pulled about 15 years ago according to the owner. So it would just need to be refreshed. No machining needed. Just torn down and refreshed and put back together.

I’m located in Southern California about 20 miles north of Los Angeles. Would prefer someone from central California all the way down to Southern California or would consider around LAs Vegas, Nevada area. Message me through here

Or if anyone knows any reliable shops that do it for a fair price?

A reseal is fairly easy and str8 forward if you can't find anyone give it a try you will be surprised how easy it is

Until you dissasemble it there is no way to be sure it needs no machining.
I had 3 rods reworked on mine and it ran well.

have a 440 to do
better get to it
get n engine stand and a ring compressor
you may need a bottle brush

"According to the owner..." I hope the owner was a straight shooter. Unfortunately, taking the word of a seller is sketchy business these days. Good luck to you.

Im in sacramento a bit of a drive. This is the 383 i did recently. I basically just did a "refresh" if you will. Pulled it apart and put new gaskets, sanded painted etc... Pulled the bearings off to check for damage. Inspected cam, lifters and pushrods. The engine had been recently rebuilt and didnt need much work but you never know until you pull it apart. I am no expert my any means but know my way around these motors.

Hopefully the old timers here dont pick me apart. As i have stated i am no professional nor do i own a machine shop. If you are looking for a full rebuild i would suggest paying a shop but not everyone can afford an hourly rate.

Not as complex as you might think it would be a simple project to do yourself and learn about your motor but when i do these the bare minimum required is..
Oil pan gasket, head gaskets, intake gaskets, valve cover gaskets, carb & air cleaner/ gasket, front crank seal, rear main seal, distributor seal, water pump housing gasket, water pump and gasket, fuel pump and gasket, water outlet gasket, thermostat, pcv grommet, fan clutch( if it has one), oil filter, spark plugs/wires/cap and rotor, freeze plugs and at least 2 different kinds of rtv. Im sure there is more i forgot to mention. This alone even if ordered dirt cheap is at least $300. Im telling you man youde be surprised how simple this all is if you gave it a shot yourself. Alot of knowledgeable guys here to help you along the way.
