Description sounds like maybe fuel delivery problem? Check simple stuff like making sure the gas tank vents, the fuel lines are not dried out and cracked at the gas tank, and such. Check Fuel pressure at the carb ("t" fitting and vacuum/pressure gauge?)

I am thinking the backfire might be from too lean air/fuel condition?

When first starting it cold, check the position of your choke. Assuming you're using a stock setup, is the pulloff opening it too far? Is it opening fully too quickly? Both can create a temporary lean condition as previously mentioned.

Yes yes, what happened was, I upon starting accidentally hit the pedal when car was high revving ,I always wait for the kick down from carb when warmed,,,thanks so much,, also my coil reading was 8 ish, little liw, gonna replace coil sldo thanks, and have a wonderful 4th

Depending on your coil position, make sure you get the right one. Factory location put the coil laying down and oil filled coils are meant to stand up. If its laying down I recommend an epoxy filled coil.

I'll just add,,, go through all your grounds, good clean metal on metal contact. make sure the ignition box is tight and grounded real good at the firewall along with the VR

Thank-you !! it was loud and my hearing suffered as much as the 2 AC/DC Concerts I attended..
not to mention 34 years of Oval track racing !!!
