I need some schooling on the original green oil filters pre-70. I have seen examples online of course.

First...what were the differences between the part numbers 1851658 (L-72) and 2536186 (L-130)? Were there differences in the size and shape of the two different filters?

Does anyone know the height of them?

Is there a modern filter out there that would work is these applications that can be purchased that is the same size as one of these filters...height as well as the length of the "scallops"?

Thanks

Th quickBpp...that is great info. I searched but did not find that article! Thx again.

I tried to cross reference many filter models but did not see one that matches the exact or darn close to the original with the long scallops. Anyone have an idea?

Do you need an original one?

Sounds like you just need a replacement oil filter. Based on filtering efficiency I'll be running the Fram XG8A. It's 99% effecent at 20 microns. Wire backed synthetic media. Metal end caps. Not seeing another spin-on that can beat it. Buy it at Wal-Mart...

I would think if any longer scalloped oil filters were in production today, the restoration oil filter manufactures would be all over it. But they all use the same short scallops seen on all modern oil filters. Maybe some old shelf oil filters have longer scallops?

Example of current restos...

Thx compsyn...starting to make sense now!

By chance do you know the difference in the 1851658 (L-72) and 2536186 (L-130) filters?

Moparnation74 posted pictures of them, not sure if they were in his build thread. Looked at 20 pages didn't see them.
