It is either connected with the heater core or is at least a part of the heating system.
Part number should be readable in one of the pictures.
My car has AC if there are two versions. But basically i just have to know what it is.

Shop told me its a heater valve but its obviously not because that part looks different:

I unfortunately do not have the part number book so i cant look it up.

Can you help me name that part?

It is a heater control valve.

No, sorry, that's for a 70. look at the other one.
 
If it's not rusted out you can rebuild it.
