Guys, in getting my under hood cleaned and repainted I wish to replace the missing insulation for my power bulge hood. Seems the catalogs only show a one piece moulded unit for about $120 bucks. They just list 73-74 hoods, so not sure if it fits bulge and non bulge hoods alike. They list a multi piece kits for earlier models, but not mine. Are there any other options y'all have found that works well....thanks....

These really are not about insulation, but sound deadening. Why would you want to suppress that beautiful v8 sound? That said, I bought one years ago and it did not fit my bulge hood, so I gave it away. They have probably changed since then.

You could spray the under side with Lizard Skin.

Looks like the detroit Muscle has whats needed. How would that Lizard skin hold up to the heat, like with a pair of non coated or non wrapped headers.....

The 73/74 RR bulge hood has a cross brace that basically renders it the same dimensions as a flat hood.

I don't see why a pad for a flat hood wouldn't work.

Charger bulge hoods don't have that cross brace and increase the clearance for a taller air cleaner.

On my 74 RR hood, I cut out that brace. Haven't tried a taller air cleaner yet, though.
Looks like it might be about 1 1/4 inch more room.

My hood does not have the cross brace at the bulge section and does not appear to have been modified. In looking at several 73 Charge vids on U tube I did not see a brace at that area on those cars. I talked with Jim at Detroit and all he has are the flat pads, so got one on the way. Looking at the pad, it does appear the mounting holes will align with the flat section and mounting holes on my hood. In sanding and prepping my underside I noticed several spots down in the curved section of the bulge outside corners where sometime in the past appears a pad was glued to the curved section of the hood. Wondered if that was factory or a PO s doings. None of the 73 vids on u tube had ANY pads at all, flat or glued in. Most of them appeared to be restored, so maybe they were not replaced OR, did the factory leave off any pads on the bulge hood cars....thats what I m starting to think......any body have totally original car we can know for sure...thanks all.....
