Where to put my mini-vice in order to hone some small block ductile iron rocker arms? I prefer a shady spot. Anyone else working under a tree? In this case the broad leaf is avocado, behind it is a wild prune, and to the right is guava.

Too funny. The first show I took my completed Superbird to a show, a guy kept coming around wanting to know who built the car. I told him that 2 of my friends and I built the car. He kept insisting basically I was lying. Finally he went on. I was sitting in my folding chair under a big shade tree and answering questions as they came and thinking about this guy. My name starts with a J and so did my 2 friends. Johnny, James, and me Jerry. That and the shade tree, I came up with JJ&J Shade Tree Restoration. He did come back and asked again, so I told him that. Ofcourse he didn't believe that either. To make this interesting, I was awarded best of show and his 66 Charger got best in class. At which time he threw the trophy on the ground and stomped it. Some folks???

At first, I was gonna ask, " did he really"??

Then I thought, he probably didn't build his, and probably spent 75,000 on his build, that someone else did, that's probably why he's mad..

I've had multiple people ask me who painted my car, and I say "me, outside"

It's actually vinyl wrapped.... I did do it tho

His had to have had 25K in chrome and then diamond pleated leather interior. It looked to be built for the World of Wheels circuit. It was a Mopar show and my stock Superbird with no glitz wasn't appreciated by him. And he did really do that.
I have had another incident similar to that at a small open car show with a World of Wheels car. This guy builds a new World of Wheels car about every 3 or 4 years. When he takes a car off the circuit he will drive it a little until it sells. At this particular show I took my 62 Dart and he came in a red and silver 55 Chevy LS engine and chromed and polished out. The awards were top 25 and people's choice. I got a top 25 as he did, but the people's choice was voted on by the spectators. He threw his top 25 award on the ground, got in his car and drove over it as he left.
I do this for my enjoyment, fun and relaxation. It is work that is enjoyable even though it has many challenges. One gets frustrated with some of the problems, but very satisfied when they are solved. Doing something you like keeps you alive IMO.

Unfortunately I do not have any photos, but back in the day my buddies and I have lifted big blocks out with a stout tree limb. Shade was welcome by-product.

I use a tree as often as possible I like working outside I get wind just need that tree!!! My work truck broke down once was driving down 95 has a helper with me to do a big job on a paver
I forced that truck another mile where I knew there was a huge tree we can brake down under he said why push it I said do you have a water pump for a 7.3 in your pocket he said no I said exactly we need to wait for one! He didn't get it at first but when we got to the tree he understood guess the kid learned something that day
Always find a tree it's 10 degree s cooler

I haven't brought mine to a "real " car show yet, just casual ones. I just don't wanna deal with guys like you described. It's a hobby to me also, I love getting them back on the road
