Rich, I tried to remove the magnet from one of mine by using a blind bearing puller and it came out in pieces, looks like it may have been glued in place. I was going try plating one myself with the magnet in place, to see what effect the plating process has on the magnet. You might want to ask someone who does plating for an opinion.

thanks ro23j, i was going to try a heat gun... im thinking the glue might soften up some? if it wont come out i will plate it and then try a small dremel drum sander to remove the zinc... what do you think ?

Maybe if you heat it and use a bearing puller, it may come out. It's worth a try.
My thinking is that the zinc may not even stick to the magnet if you plated the entire assembly.
Another thing I found was if you have an extra motor, you can carefully split the case with a Dremel cut off wheel and you can get the magnet out intact. But you still have to remove the magnet from the housing that you want to have plated.
Good luck and please post your results if you do it. I will do the same as soon as I order the plating kit.

i'll let you know either way, im starting to think i'll just plate it and see what happens.. that magnet looks brittle...lol

Rich,

I know that it has been a while since this discussion, But I thought I would let you know that I finally got around to experimenting with DIY zinc plating and I plated the windshield washer motor housing with the magnet in place. The plating did not stick to the magnet and the motor still works! Jim
