Not nowadays! I've seen the poor schmucks down in the pits working in the winter with melting snow and salt water dripping all over them for 8 hours a day.
Mike
How about doing a "semi" on a creeper in winter?lol. Dripping on ur crotch while greasing. At least on cars you're standing up.
My Dad serviced all of the families garbage trucks. That nasty "garbage juice" dripping out of the packers. Makes me gag to this day thinking about it.

Sheesh, you bunch of whiny old fuddy-duddies. Thanks for killin' my nostalgia buzz. :mob:
Ok, in order:
1. Never worked in a pit (and never will).
2. Never worked under a semi for anything. Ever. (Won't, Part Deux)
3. Never worked on garbage trucks. That's ridiculous. (Won't, Hat Trick!)

"My" rack for that gig was the old roll-on rack for the 4wheel alignments and had the auxiliary lift rams
built in, front and rear. I was assigned that rack alone because a)I took care of company equipment and
b)knew what I was doing AND how to get along with the customers.
The rack kept a lot of crap off of me - and of course, I was bright enough that I knew (from looking through
the tickets the night before) what was coming and would get in early, get the first one on the lift and let
'er drip a bit while eating breakfast.
Nothing but customer cars and pickups, no commercial crap. LOF, tires, R&R, that sort of thing.
I also was the "cradle snatcher" tow truck driver, the owners' prized truck. Same reasons.
Not bad for a kid just out of high school, really. Seriously considered it for a career for a time....

So THERE. GOOD memories. Nanner nanner.
(Bunch a dang ol' contrarian goats :icon_fU:) :)

Ed,lol.....Any idea how many tons of snow/ice there is on a semi? Overnight may not even be enuf at times!
