I don't want to go to work tomorrow.

Thanks.
I'm past the finish line in terms of the 30 year retirement point so I could stop at any time. The only thing that keeps me working now is....
****. I'm not sure. Why am I still doing this stuff? The fun days are behind me. I've been listening to a Pandora radio "Hits of the 90s" station and those songs remind me of the days in residential construction. Truck backed in, doors open with the radio blasting, working in gym shoes, shorts, no shirt, no hard hat, making money and getting a tan.
Now, the residential jobs are all Non Union and the work we do get is not nearly as fun. Boots, pants, full shirt, safety vests, hard had, safety glasses and sometimes even gloves.
What a shame.
Time to retire KD. Enjoy the things you really want to do. Sleep in late, stay up late, drive the cars whenever you want, yell at the kids to get off your lawn, even sit on the front deck with your coffee in the morning in your sport shorties.:D My last day is August 28. DONE!

Thanks.

There is no going back to those days, I remember them well. Get up, shorts on, t-shirt in hand and never put it on. Keep it in my truck in case I had someplace to stop after work. Now you got me thinking about! You could just keep it up till one day you've had enough and call it a day. It's not like you're a old man and can't work. The money's nice and it's all you know to do is work and go home, work and go home. It's a balance and when one side falls to low, it's time to go. You already know, you're just doing time, it's called life and only you will know when it's time to turn the page. Be safe!!

It was 11 years ago Friday that I retired.

You have different taxes in different states in the same country? That's odd....can't off hand think of another country that does that....could be wrong. You are more like a group of separate countries linked together (like Europe) than one "United State" imo. I know you have different laws in different states to.

Federal Tax
State Tax
Local municipalities Tax
County Tax

Most laws are universal across the states. Specific laws pertaining to unique circumstances do vary from state to state like agricultural and industrial matters.
Some states have heavily oppressive tax burdens to pay for excessive government and social programs. Illinois is heavily taxed while Texas is not. California, New York and New Jersey are heavily taxed while our southern states are not.
Guess where people are choosing to leave and where they are going ?

What you talking about alf... every Province in Canada has a different provincial tax (some have none) and on top is a Federal GST tax from the Cuntry. Ontario is 8% + 5 %. Quebec is 9% +5%. Alberta has no Provincial and 5% GST.

I don't want to do this job anymore. It is very boring. The biggest challenge is to stay awake.
The upside? It is indoor work in the Summer and it is fairly close to home.
Still, I am one that needs a challenge to stay interested. I have a hard time staying on point on a job where the work is dull. This project would be ideal for a broken down old guy. I'm not there yet!
I want to pull up stakes and punch out. I'm just hanging in for a little while longer for some personal reasons.
What I really want to do is to take some college courses on automotive subjects. I'm sure that there are things that I can learn.

Kern Dog,
While ago (30 years) I took a bunch of auto classes at a local community college (Brakes, steering and suspension, A/C, electrical, and some I don't remember). I had a blast doing it because I didn't have to be there. It was just for fun! Only thing now is they might only be teaching the new stuff. Maybe you can find some Classic classes, unless you want to learn how to plug and play with today's stuff. Troubleshooting in not what it used to be. Time keeps moving on, can't find anyone local that knows TQ's. I will have to learn those myself. Best advise, Go have some fun, life is too short!

Best bet....https://www.uti.edu/

All things being equal with this stupid virus I'm starting a mixed welding course (arc, mig, tig, gas)in the new term in September at a local college....just one evening a week for one year. I can weld OK but am only self taught and know I could do better...Im not brave enough to weld structural parts....just sheet and panels etc....as I never know if the weld is good enough for that!...be nice to be able to with confidence. Looking forward to it....never too old to learn.

Been talking about this for almost 2 years now

hope you got your accumulative 30 in

then do what you want, where you want & when you want

you'll still be on the wife's timetable till she retires too :poke:

IMO not having a job to go to, regular routine
sometimes isn't all it's cracked up to be
I know many guys who struggled with retirement

I do enjoy my time now
I had to learn to really
BUT;
unless you have the means/funds to do the stuff you want
it's can be sort of boring at times too,
you'll find yourself inventing things, that need to be done

be careful about your spending too
It goes way faster, when not as much coming in
or no overtime or extra cash for side work etc.

---------------------------------------------------------------

I took a few courses while still working
Machine Tech, at a JC, when I still lived in Concord, DVC
so I could use the machinery & tools I didn't have
& actually learned a little too

Some fellow students were there for the same reason I was
a couple of older gentlemen 50's when I was in my 30's
Nostalgia Drag Racing & IHBA (drag boat racing) veterans
from the old Alameda Shipyard Boat builders/machinists

the course instructor wasn't that good,
but he let US do personal projects at will, hands on stuff
with a little guidance, getting metal cheap
& an abundance of it to choose from, made all kinds of brackets & mounts etc.

Not sure how it'd be today, that was almost 30 years ago now

I thought about doing that again, up here at Columbia College
a few 20-25 (?) or so miles away, do a CNC Machining course
sounds like it'd be fun

But I'm learning about, procrastinating now
