Trunk Weatherstrip

Glad to hear that it worked out for you. The fit is much more correct than the generic style and it appears that it the bonded area was matched at a reasonable area.

It seemed perfectly like the original. I started the other side with the bond right in the transition area and it put the tail over about 2" from the latch. Once I got all the way around I had to do a quick slide to pull it down a bit (too much looseness needed it a bit tighter) and it lined up right where you see it. I am sure this is how the factory workers did it which is why the center seam is about 2" offset from the latch from the factory.

You used the 3M yellow snot adhesive?

Will this thing crush down after a while? It fits so tight it is pushing my trunk up higher than the quarter panels.

Jim, how did you adjust your trunk? After installing the weatherstrip, my trunk lid is now lifted along the hinge side.

The trunk weatherstrip as pictured on the left is the generic style as used on the B-Bodies from 63 to 74. It can be used on all of the other models as well. The trunk weatherstrip pictured on the right is the correct style as used on the 63 to 70 model applications. This seal has the lip that extends over into the trunk area so as to locate the seal. If you should look at an original seal on a car, there will be an area where this lip was removed due to the metal lip of the trunk gutter. Back in the day, these seals were a molded piece unique to each application. The current seals are an extrusion and that is why it is no longer possible to have the lip molded correctly into the seal. It has to be manually removed to duplicate the factory original style as used back in the day.
