On a 440 engine. There are passenger side water inlets for the water pump, and there are driver side inlets. Mine is on the passenger side . Is there a difference in the timing tabs that are on the timing chain cover? My timing tab is partly hidden by the pump. ...........................MO

Driver side inlet is normal. Might check the pump housing number, to figure which one you have.

I switched to a "driver's" side inlet because I couldn't see the timing marks. You could re-plot them to the other side but that takes a bit of time and you'd have to fab a pointer tab.

I've wondered about this too. I had this same issue when I dropped a 440 into a 77 Cordoba and couldn't see the timing marks at all and had to time it by ear

I know which pump housing I have. The question is, what timing tab is supposed to go with it? I bought a new radiator , and it required the passenger side inlet, to match up. I think my timing tab is for a driver side inlet...........................MO

I

I will look if time allows and get back on that one
I did look at 440 Source. They show several things, but that doesn't answer my question. I should call them and I would think there would be a tech there that might know. Thanks.....................MO

That is what I am thinking---so now, what do I need? .......................MO

Dale, don't bother right now. I am trying to find out if there is an alternative to replacing the cover. 440 source does show an adjustable pointer, but not how to mount it. I even thought about attaching a timing tab that has the degrees marked up to 20 degree advance, on to the tab that is there. That would then be more visible around the pump housing. I don't need it right away, as I probably won't be doing further tuning till next Spring. Thanks for your help.......................MO

Hey Steve
I know the chebby guys can get a pointer that mounts using 2 cover bolts. Dunno if they make a BB Mopar one also. Wouldn't need to change covers then.

Was this problem ever solved? I have the same issue. Thanks.

No, I just made the marks yellow on the orange tab to see it better, and then got the timing light positioned just right , to avoid getting into the fan blade... Been quite a while ago, and I no longer have the car.............MO
