Going to brake down my 383 roadrunner motor. Dose any one have good suggestions of where to get the part's. Like Gasket and seal kit. New timing gear's and chain. Crank bearing's and cam. What would you use for a Cam want a driver with punch. It is bored 30 over. What about valve spring's. I don't know if it has had the head's worked for hard valve seat's. If I left any thing out don't for get to let me know. Oh Running a A833 four speed. With a 3:55 gearing in an 8 3/4 rear end. Thanks guy's for info. Have built many motor's but that one of them was a 440 in a duster for back road racing. But I won't be racing but like I said would like some punch but not be crow hopping through the parking lot. Already have a Holley semi high rise. Also the Holley 650 carb four barrel. Will keep the cast iron exhaust manifold's. Looking to stay original. Like header's but they are a real pain so figured the cast iron ones would give me less trouble. Thanks Blue.

I suggest Rock Auto for the stock items and I would call Hughes Engines for a cam recommendation. Any budget for aluminum heads?
Mike

you can get everything from hughs....not just advice and cam. there is many places to get 383 parts. same places you would get 440 parts

I use Mancini racing parts in Detroit for most all of my Mopar parts. I have always had great service from them and they are Mopar people so they can help you also. I also suggest talking with a good eng builder that you may know and trust and work out a nice combo for just what you are looking for. Of course we can give you good info on here but depending on how much you know it can get confusing when you get about 20 different cam suggesting and so on. Not that any info on here is bad but we all don't like the same build as many of us want different results from our cars. Its really good to find one good eng builder that you trust and stick with his opinion on most of the build but make sure its a good eng person that you trust. And if you are not sure on some of his suggesting then ask away on here. Myself I built a nice 383 eng for my Dart years ago as it was a nice driver that was a very mild combo but still ran 12.30's @ 110 mph in the 1/4 mile. But I used the older MP .484 cam which I like a lot but many don't care for it because it has a good bit of lope which some don't like but I love it. Ron

Also Hughes as yello71 suggested is a good choice also as they are good Mopar people. Ron

Thanks for the info. As far as aluminum head's will have to look at these old cast iron one's. Don't know what was done to the motor when it was bored 30 over. I will go through it with a fine tooth comb. Have rebuilt several motor's in my life. We use to race a 440 in a duster that started out with a 340. Regular tare down on from time to time. Any one that has raced knows all about this. Yes will have to look at the jug's and the head's. Check crank bearing's and have a go over with the cam. Check valves and seat's. Know I will replace the valve spring's and the guide seal's. You all know that a motor has so many moving part's that have be gone over. All replies are appreciated. As my age is getting up their and have not opened a 383 before. Thanks for suggestion's.

You can get everything from Summit. If you have some time a discount code will come up for 10% and you get free shipping. My last 383 build was similar to what you are doing. I went went eddy heads, holly 650SA, MP intake, MP electronic ignition, stock exhaust manifold and a crummy duel exhaust that was installed by the local muffler shop. Cam was MP 268/284 which is mild. My pistons were about .025 in the hole which netted about 9 to 1 compression. Ran about 34 degrees total on timing. This engine ran very good. No pinging, always started well, no heat issues. Only thing I would change is the carb. I will never run another street avenger carb again. It had a stumble off the line and it would surge at steady throttle. No matter what I did I could not get rid of those conditions. If it was my car I would go with a Holley Sniper and Hyperspark ignition system. If carb then a 3310 Holley 750 would go on. I would also go with a hydraulic roller cam. Used a 242/248 in a 440. Torque monster. With a bigger carb, more compression, maybe about 278/294 cam (not a roller cam) I think you would have a good combo. I went with the smaller cam in my car because of the stock exhaust manifolds.

Step 1 - Measure the piston to deck distance.
Step 2 - identify the cam you have in it now
Step 3 - Get very clear on what your goal is for the car
Step 4 - Determine your budget.

Then start talking about what to do and making decisions.
