So the plan is to install an A833 OD trans in my 1973 Road Runner. It’s a 318 with an A230 3 speed in the floor. I have the transmission but I’m finding that a factory OD bellhousing is illusive. I’ve “just missed” three in the past couple weeks. I’ve heard and read a number of people say to turn the bearing retainer to 4.80” diameter and the bellhousing machined to match. I don’t won’t to tear the car down and have it non-driveable; I’d rather buy a second bellhousing and have everything ready when I start. I know I need a small block, 130 tooth flywheel bellhousing but is there a specific casting number or range of model applications that will fit and work properly? If anyone has an OD bellhousing for sell please let me know.

I don’t know part numbers for sure but I have a 4speed bell out of a truck and my dad has one from a car If you find out what you need for sure i would be willing to sell one of them

What's the plan for the 3 speed stuff ?
My dad had a 3 on the floor Chrysler Newport as a kid we own a Chrysler 300 now and it might be cool to stick a 3 speed in it for him like his first car .
I'll check with a guy local he bought my 4 speed overdrive setup awhile back with a bell he might still have it all

I have a small block bell housing that I took from a 67 A Body 340 4 speed many years ago. But the numbers say it is from a late 60s, early 70s pickup It is cast iron, not aluminum. But i will sell it cheap... say $75 bucks + shipping.

I believe the OD bellhousing I need is casting number 3743859. This has an 833 mounting pattern, not the NP435 heavy truck trans pattern. If you have one please let me know. Thanks.

The 3 speed has started making noise and my brother says he thinks the synchros are going. But when it comes out it’ll all get boxed together and go on the loft of the barn. I’m a closet hoarder. If they guy has a bellhousing he’d sell please let me know. Thanks.

Thanks for the offer. I do appreciate it. The bellhousing in the pic is for a NP435 or similar (think heavy truck granny gear) trans. I am pretty sure it won’t mount to an A833 style.

You can (IIRC) still purchase a brand new 4.80 bearing retainer. Just swap the retainers. Done.

I'm pretty sure I took it out of a 67 Barracuda with a 4 speed. The car was changed to Automatic at the owners request. But I could be mistaken, as it was probably 35 years ago...
EDIT: I looked up images online, and you are correct. Glad to find out, as I was planning to unknowingly sell it to someone. NOW, I got to try and remember where it came from.... I dont recall ever working on a sm block straight drive pickup....
