Ok so now that I have your attention.....Were the heater hose nipples on a 440 painted engine color or left natural from factory??

Dig through moparnation74's and dadsbee's resto threads, they might show them.

My old girlfriend could scratch paint with hers. :)

I think the heater box went in after paint.

They had paint, just like the negative battery cable.

This is from an article about restorations that Frank Badalson did.

No, but if I remember correctly in 1970 Chrysler went from leaving the dipstick tube and handle natural to getting engine color?? Going to paint engine this coming week, so was just seeking some information.

My 70 Superbird was painted. To the best of my knowledge it was still factory when I pulled the engine to rebuild. I put it back just like I found it, other than fresh paint.

A true OE restoration, whereas an OE car is judged by the David Wise book, specs that the fittings are installed in the water pump before paint but have "tape" marks halfway down. So not bare and not painted, everybody is wrong! Or right, per each individuals ego.

The OE Book by David Wise says that 383 and 440 engines have a painted stick and also a picture that shows the 70-71 tube goes between the manifold and the valve cover. Also I was under the impression that the 383 Negative Cable was installed prior to paint but found out later that it was only a Hemi thing and not a B/RB thing. I didn't change mine because most people would argue the point so I left it painted. If you ever want to boggle someones mind mention a little known fact that battery tray bolts have copper plated washers for corrosion protection. They can be sourced off of Internationals.
