Chevy Hood Scoops On Mopars, Lets See them

Here is my Road Runner hood :)

The universals like above are one thing when used for drag racing. No, no , no, Chevy cowl induction hoods are not allowed on Mopars. I am making a custom stretched & drop base, adapter ring & scoop my my shaker set up to adapt to the tunnel ram & dual Dominator carbs just so I don't have to run a cowl hood. LOL.

Oddly enough your hood opening looks an awful lot like the shaker hood opening on a Pontiac Trans Am.

Well, I didn't want to use a hood scoop but..... I run a low profile B&M174 Blower that I thought would fit under the hood. I was going for the sleeper look and wanted it to be hidden under the hood.

The 2-4" cowl hoods don`t look too bad, but the really tall ones suck on anything ! JMO

ok, I Sonny have been watching this thread......

my opinion is the cowl hood looks nice on a copo, camero.ss-rs..ect chevelle. etc....
......but the cowl look like **** on a B Body....
end of story.....

You should be banned from the site forever for a comment like that. LOL. Opinions vary, that is why everyone has one. I have never seen a tunnel ram Hemi, dual dominator shaker hood Trans Am before. Maybe, I should of built a Trans Am? I could have done a Trans Am Shaker set up for about $350.00 instead of what it costs to do a E Body Mopar Shaker.

If that is the scoop you run in your signature picture, see that is appropriate. Universal & looks good on anything. A cowl does not look good on a GTX.

Nationwide is picking up Cookie, today or Monday....going to LA to be a star:lowdown:....drears...

:praying: i will have pictures when they pic her up...I scared fearful & frightened.:fool: they insured her for 350K....overkill BUT I like it..she is not worth much BUT we will see what the guys at discover channel think (a$$monkeys) ....:(

No offense mean't, but if you read my post very carefully the comment was only about the shape of the opening on your hood. Nothing was said about your induction system. You quantify your response with, Opinions vary!....food for thought. Just my thoughts.:moparsmiley:

I don't see any way around doing a cowl-like hood on my 70 Roadrunner to have the headroom to fit the added height of my Weiand 6bbl Cross Flow intake, AND the N-96 air box and Air Grabber scoop door and various mechanisms. It will not have that pronounced peak line down the middle though, from what I have found.
The only other reasonable choice would be the tall "Six Pack" hood and scoop. I'm really hooked on the 70 Air Grabber though, and that's what I really want to put together.
I had the Weiand on my 440, to test fit, but Cristobal was brewing in the Gulf and I had to cut that short and put the Edelbrock/Chrysler 6bbl intake back on, in case I had to move my car (which I did). What I'd like to have in the "raised section" of the hood is enough height to fit the 70 Air Grabber AIRBOX, and the taller than stock K&N air filter, because I've seen flow numbers and I want to run a filter, and the additional height of the K&N is a big factor in providing that extra flow. There are a couple of K&N filters taller than stock, one is an "off the shelf" at 3½" tall IIRC, and I think the other special order one is 4" tall.
If the CFM of the 3½" one is adequate, that is my preference. So that is one factor I didn't have to be able to measure before. I also have to consider any height variations between my iron head 440 and the Max Wedge ports on the TF 270s on the BME aluminum block. Finally I may want to add the space of a Nitrous Express 2bbl spray plate that I have, so I can accommodate that if I ever want to add it.
I thought my AMD N96 hood was the last hood I'd ever have. I really want to make this next one live up to that.
Or I can just get @vintage chromoly to come by with the Sawzall and a nice coarse tooth wood blade (to save time on cutting out the hole) Put some black air conditioner lines insulation around the edge of the sheet metal opening and call it done.
:poke: :D

I've been a bad influence on my bud Brian
The difference between the SubLime RR and the cowl that I'm seemingly forced to resort to-so I can have my Air Grabber and hood clearance too-is I'm doing it so I don't have to have the engine or intake "out in the breeze". It's kinda funny to have a cowl and still have a big open hole in the hood.

So far, this is the closest picture I can find to what I think I'm going to wind up with:

It definitely has the 70 Air Grabber scoop coming out of the top of the cowl:

Finished my Super Shaker. Still functions like factory, still mounted to engine while hood is open.
