I would love to see members pictures, assuming any own one of these beasts. I know they are not the most popular B body cars, but they are my favorite, and maybe I'm searching wrong, but I haven't found any here. Then I'll try and talk you into selling it :)

More so, the '78 police Fury's top speed would not be surpassed by another police-package model until the release of the Chevy Caprice 9C1 police package in 1994, with its LT1 engine. But, as we've already mentioned, officers could not celebrate the 440's power advantage for long, as all variations of this engine were gone by '79.
 
I crawled all over a bunch of those 440 police cars in 1978 when an auto rack full of them came into the shop on the railroad. I remember the dual exhaust which I thought was unusual at the time. The air cleaner lids were flipped upside down.
 
Yes, I've read and drooled over the Hemmings car many times, thank you. I love the 74/75 Gran Fury too. As a very little kid I got a ride in a 440 A38 '75 GF. Remember everything about it, e.g. smell, feel, everything. I'd buy one of them too if right one came along, but mostly want a 77/78 Monaco/Fury to go with my M body AHB.

I love these cars too. I have two of them - an ex-CHP Monaco with a 440 and an ex-LAPD unmarked Fury with a 360. Really hard to find these cars now.

Is the 2nd digit in the VIN still “K”? I had a ‘69 Fury I that was PK41H I got free back in the 80’s. I still have the 383 out of it.

Thanks, I have been restoring the Monaco over the past 4 years and am currently working on the Fury as it had been sitting for years.

Both cars go pretty well, the Monaco did have some work to the engine by a former owner (who is probably still on this forum) so it is fast. Not so quick off the line but it has a lot of power once you are moving.
 
I drove an A38 440 powered Monaco for a significant portion of High School.

Cam, headers, exhaust. Still had the cage and antennas. But no working gas gauge. Ended up walking a couple of times because of that.

This is what inspired me to buy the '78 Monaco A38 that I have now; When I was in high school in 1991, my uncle, who owned a 1964 1/2 mustang (which I really wanted), mentioned that he acquired a 1978 Fury that was an old Oregon State patrol car complete with 440/727, blue paisley bucket seat interior and otherwise complete. Was kinda cool, but 15-year old me really wanted the mustang (which he wouldn't selll) so I passed. He drove that Fury for years and finally scrapped it and sold the drivetrain to a local racer, but found out later he would have sold it to me for $250 had I been interested. I instead got my grandfather's old '64 Impala coupe with a 283/auto and had enough fun with that. While I kick myself for passing on the Fury, it may have been for the best as may have overdriven that thing with my teenage driving naivete.

Looking forward to getting my Monaco drivable soon.
