Ive got a 1972 727 trans going in our 63 fury,ca someone tell me what slip yoke length it requires,we rae getting a forged unit, does te length matter?i see a few different lengths talked about and offered from suppliers,we also dont have a driveshaft yet so that doesnt matter, more worried about how it fits inside the trans itself

I know it matters at least when going to the 1350 size slip yoke. I'm ordering one today, and they need to know how much of the splined output shaft sticks out of the trans tail housing, and the measurement from the end of the housing to the center of the rear universal with the weight of the car on the tires. I tried just giving them a cap to cap measurement, they said the yokes are different, and they need the other measurements.

Don't do cap to cap, ask me how I know! Did that but the yoke was beefier. The distance from u-joint to the barrel of yoke was 3/8" thicker than the one I measured off. Measured off a 1330 yoke bought a 1350 yoke. The way they told you to measure eliminates this error. Was able to use it but it was close.

i dont have a driveshaft yet, just need to know the proper length of the yoke itself or does it matter
If they're supplying yoke that's why they what the measurements from end of main shaft to center of rear yoke and how far main shaft to tail shaft is.
My 1330 slip yoke barrel is 9" long but no splines for the first 2". The 1350 yoke is the same but thicker where u-joint is. That's where my problem started.

as I said before idont have a drive shaft yet and wont be getting one until I the proper yoke for my 1972 727 trans

Any 727 yoke will work on a 66 and up. The only time there is an issue is with a 1965 trans where there is a bulge n the output shaft beyond the splines limiting how far into the trans the yoke can slide. Any other year the yoke will just slide past the splines.
