I dropped my 440 in car on the engine mounts but after I got both bolts in engine mounts then it seem to just keep falling backwards and I finally raised it back up and wanted to know if that’s normal or if I need something in it? It’s just the k member, so do I need the torsion bars in it or anything? Or a cross member? Also it was a 318 car do I need to put in stronger torsion bars?

Do you have the transmission hooked up? Transmission cross member installed? You can't just stick and engine in and hope it levitates in the rear. You either need to hook up the transmission and or a block of wood and a jack under the oil pan.

Torsion bars are not needed since they only have to do with the suspension and not so much the drive train.

The motor mounts are not placed at the middle of the engine where they can allow the engine to "balance". You need to either install the transmission and crossmember or prop up the back of the engine with a floor jack.

Lol. I dunno man, after a 12 hour shift, reading that just made me laugh.

Also, where is everyone getting these 440 blocks from? I have a feeling that when I finally go in for a rebuild they'll tell me that the block is bored out to the max, but where to find a replacement?

You can usually find old RV 440s out there pretty cheap. They are usually standard bore and in decent shape. While the casting dates are in the 70's they are still something to work with. The 440 in my avatar is my old 75 RV 440.

Here is one local to you. Its a 66 casting for a 67 I think the first year the 440 was used was 67.

Holy s**t I swear I just checked the local CL recently. How much do these old blocks go for?

I bought a whole RV 440 for 250 I overpaid. But It ended up needing a complete rebuild and 30 over pistons. So it was a better engine after that.

I sold 2 440 blocks last year, a 72 and a 75, both standard bore that I had cleaned and magna fluxed. Just the blocks and main caps. Got $550 for one, and $475 for the other.

But if the car was originally a 318 and you put a heavier 440 in it you DO need to replace the torsion bars to 440 bars, or hemi ones.

if you are going to drive it on curves with wide wheels go straight to aftermrket
