Oil pan pick up tube issue

I have a Mancini Racing 8 qt oil pan for a big block. It came with the pick up tube. I installed it today & I measured & my pick up & its 5/8ths from the bottom of the pan sump. Is that ok or do I have the wrong pick up. All parts are new. The pick up & pan came as a kit together.
 
3/8" would be better. Can you bend it to make it better?

If you're could heat it at each bend and keep the pickup horizontal you could lengthen it.
 
No not at all your question was an oil pick up tube correct

Yep. You should be able to bend it cold but I know how it is to install one and not want to remove it if you can help it. Some heat at each bend would make it easier than doing it cold. Keeping the end flat with the bottom of the pan is the trick, that's why you might want to do both bends to accomplish this, if there is two bends.
 
Use some heat 440 is half inch mpt good hemis did 5/8 smaller wall thick but worked just made a front sump to a rear for a camaro now back to mid.
 
The long answer I believe is spinning a big block without any oil restrictions to the heads, you can end up with 4-5 quarts of oil 'up top', leaving 3 or less in the pan, considering the oil filter holds a quart. Under hard acceleration the remaining oil could climb the back of the sump and at least partially uncover the pickup screen and the pump with suck some air. 3/8 clearance would certainly be better. I would, as already suggested, try heat and then re bend the contours of the tube. If not, cut it, find another section of tube and lengthen it a bit. Welding it back together needs to be air tight, as I'm sure you're aware.

Who says that 5/8" is all that bad? Parallel to pan is much better.
 
Be careful bending it. I knew a guy once who attempted the same thing with the same Mancini pan and pickup. It broke off at the threads. A new pickup was acquired and worked exactly as KK described only I, err he made a template to get it to the correct depth.

What does Mancini say? Perhaps they packaged the wrong tube.
 
Haven’t called them. I think I’m going to heat it & try to slowly bend it just a bit

Did you get the kit with the windage tray? That and double gaskets adding to the depth of the pan?

You won't have to bend it much to get rid of the 5/8"
