Guys, just got this one owner car and trying to understand what is original from whats been replaced. The original 440 is gone and this one he installed is a 71 engine. I assume the 440 air cleaner center piece is original but use with a Cal Custom base cleaner....what would the original air cleaner look like. Appears he installed this motor but never got completely hooked up. He did some terrible looking home made motor mounts, so I am just going to pul the engine first and see whats up. Alternator and power steering pump are mounted incorrectly. Would ANY of those brackets for a 68 be the same used on a 71 engine. Looking to know what is correct before I order right stuff. What would be the correct casting numbers use for the 68 440 exhaust manifolds. Thanks. I just got the service manual but it assumes one is just working with original parts....

Don't know what model car you're working with. The air cleaners & exhaust manifolds vary with the car model & performance level. I think the alt & PS brackets are the same year to year, but I think different if the motor had AC, may be wrong.

Thanks, car is a 68 GTX, factory 440 with auto trans, non AC. Looking to learn correct casting numbers for exhaust , water pump manifold, what factory air cleaner looked like, as I begin to collect parts to restore.

Link to Nicks Cleaner ID page was great, helped much, thanks for posting...
