I wanna flat tow my charger to my backyard for paint and bodywork. How well do those work? Does anyone have pics or advice?

I know people that would routinely flat tow their drag cars to the drag strip. One guy towed his 66 Charger, with a 66 Charger 160 miles each way, never had a problem. Another fellow towed a Mustang 200 miles each way.

don't back up (it's 98% impossible)

don't lock the steering on the towed car

make sure everything is secure, then make sure again

use lightly traveled roads

I rented a U-Haul tow bar years ago towed A car from Alabama to Wisconsin no issues

If all you wanna do is move it from front yard to the back, all you need is a chain and another driver. Dont overthink it.
However, this is what we flat towed our race car to the track with, in the eighties. The tow tabs bolted to the bumper bracket mounts, the tow hubs were made from 1/2" steel and amc hubs, and the tow bar is 1/4"wall (it's heavy!)

We towed it out with the slicks in the bed (or the trunk) took off the stock rims and street tires, took off the tow hubs, and put the slicks on. Unbolt the tow bar, and let's go!

Just how big is your back yard that you need to tow it ?!?!? Stick a kid behind the wheel a get a couple buddies to help you push it.

I did it the same way in the 90's before I got a trailer, except for the hubs. I just put the 4 speed in neutral.

It's funny how much my home made towbar resembles yours.

My 1st drag car came with a home made tow bar like post#6. Simple angle iron bolted to the stock bumper mounts. After a couple years towing 15 miles to the local track 2-3 days a week, got towing hubs & towed from St Paul to Byron, Il 350 miles 3-4 times a season in addition to the local track. Then built the trailer.
