Hey guys and gals hope all is well! So I've been picking away at the 66 charger and one of the things that needs to be done is the horns. I looked in the service manual under the horns service diagnosis section and im trying to figure out where relay "s" terminal is and "b" and "h" terminal.is soni can connect a jumper wire ive attached the text from the manual. Sorry they are sideways. Any help is appreciated. I really need to get these working.

Horn relay for the horns should be up on the radiator support in 66 I think.

On my 66 the relay is right between the horns on the passenger inner fender.
The relay should have 12 Volts pressing the button on the wheel closes the connection to DC- and then the relay sends that same 12V to the wire to the horns.
This is one cause of an unknown battery drain the horns don't work and the button on the wheel pulls in the relay all day and night and the battery dies.
You can check the horns themselves with a jumper right to the battery.

  • Thanks for the info! I found the relay this morning and mine is mounted on the driver side firewall near the bulk head. I jumped a wire from the S terminal to a ground, the horns didn't sound but you could feel the relay doing weird ****. So I jumped the B and H terminal and nothing. When I check the horns with a jumper do I connect on Neg or Pos post? Thanks!

Positive to the horn they use the body as the Negative to get back to the battery.

Make sure you have a ground strap from the rear of the engine to the firewall.
Very important.

Awesome, thank you! And yes there is a ground strap from back of engine to firewall!

So horns are junk. I did a continuity test on both and nothing, checked the wire terminals and those both get 12v when the horn is pressed, so relay and the wiring are good. Next question is where do.i get replacement horns?

Did you try turning the adjuster? Just turn it back and forth a little. Do it on the work bench with power hooked up. A couple of raps with a hammer can get them going again also..

I'll try it out today but I'm pretty sure they are toast! I guess if that does work ill have to return my classic industries order!

Well i got the new horns today, and they do not have the right brackets on them to mount correctly, so thats cool. Ill get those returned. Still getting no continuity from the old horns. By chance do any of you know what the resistance reading should be for the relay?

I've decided instead of returning ****, I just made a couple new mounting holes, horns work!
