Someone please explain to me how that rear suspension set up works!!!????

I read that article on the turbo encabulator in Mopar Action. Ruffcut

Just envision the ladder bars as the front half of the leaf spring. The bars pivot at the front.

It wouldnt surprise me if it works quite well, a wheelie machine. Quarter eliptic springs hold the car up, the ladders locate and determine how the suspension acts, and the shocks control it . It just has a long low instant center, that probably lifts the front end of the car a bunch.

A buddy's a mechanical engineer and is building something similar right now. Check out the racing forums.

I thought so, i recognized the bumper/filler panel. I have a 49 business coupe.
With the length of the ladder bars, it looks like a very old school build. Straight front axle/gasser build?

Yep. Straight axle old school gasser, lots of nostalgia and patina,,,440 4 speed, TOO COOL, and I need another car!!!!

That instant center is long. Itll squat the rear of the body at the hit. My bet is it sit and spin.

Are you saying that because the ladder bars are so long?.

Not necessarily the length, shorter bars can have the same geometry. But in this case, the length and height of the front pivot point means that the instant center is very far forward, and below the neutral line, also known as the anti squat line. .
This means this setup will want to squat in the rear (body goes down, lowering pressure on the slicks) and lift the front of the car. IF it hooks, (Doug suggests it wont) it should want to wheelie, a lot, just what the nostalgia gasser shows want.
