Would this block be worth trying to save?

I ran into a guy over the weekend with a small stash of Hemi parts, he had a block that has weld repair in the number 4 main saddle. It has been ran after the repair but I'm still a little unsure about a repair in that area. I can pick the block up for $500 so it leaves some room to pay for repair work. What do you guys think? If it was any other engine I'd say no, but?

maybe it's the photo but the lifter bore area might also have an issue??

I wish I had the original car, it was born in an LO23 car. It belongs to the son of the original owner. He still has the car, with another engine in it, but no chance of parting with it. Lifter area has some chips, but nothing that really would be an issue. Just really concerned about the main saddle area

Does a 68 Hemi Dart have the partial VIN Stamped on the block? If does he nuts for selling it.

I’d be buying it at $500 all day long.

No, VIN on it at all.

anything stamped on the oil pan rail in the rear?
might be ok for a street motor either way you will have a lot of money into just to gamble on it coming apart plus if it's missing main caps since I don't see any in the photos there's another big expense I also would be surprised if it's hard blocked..

I sold my 66 block the stamping was on the block by the trans flange.
VIN or SO numbers or what? I thought it was widely accepted that there are no stamped numbers on pre-'68 blocks (other than the assembly numbers on the stamp pad). But I have heard a small number of people insist there are. Inquiring mind wants to know, HEMI-ITIS!

This one literally has no numbers at all. Nothing stamped, no casting date or even casting number.

By the look of what I can see its cracked in the main saddle up to the cam bearing? I'd be leary to put a much cash into it unless it was light driving. Thats a high stress area. That being said I'm no cast iron weld expert.

agreed - it would need to go to a machine shop regardless and get checked - and even then I would only use it for street driving --- but a hemi block for $500 is still a good deal IMO - I'd buy it if it were local - repaired hemi block around me was listed at $2400 and another at $4500

At $500 id take a gamble the repair doesn't look bad I would go get it dipped and really look at it to see if it's worth investing into hemis are huge money I would say ether way you will get your money back if you were to sell it
