Sorry for the intrusion,

Lately, we have seen several people come to FBBO trying to scam our members.

Usually, they will respond to "Wanted to Buy" ads by private message, giving an email address to respond to. They usually have recently joined FBBO and have few or no posts.

If you respond they wont want payment by PayPal, and will say their PayPal account or dormant or something like that. They will almost always ask for a money order for payment.

I cannot advice strong enough that you don't send a money order to someone you don't know well. Sending a money order is like sending cash, there is very little you can do in the event you are scammed. This is why the scammers ask for money orders. They are easy to cash and all but impossible to stop payment on or do anything with if you get scammed. Think of it like leaving $100 bill on a bar and going to the bathroom. There is a good chance it wont be there where you come back and nobody will be able to help you.

I cannot stress strongly enough that you should not use Money Orders unless you know the person your sending the money to fairly well. In my personal opinion, the safest way is to use PayPal for all online transactions unless you know the person your sending money to. Its not perfect, but its the safest in my opinion.

We do what we can to protect FBBO members, but in instances like this we cannot do a lot without your help. If you get a PM from someone like described above, let a staff member know right away and we will look into the member.

Thank you for listening.

I contact money gram and verified payment was received, is there away to track the person who receive the money

If it`s "Too good to be true" it usually is. $200 shipping included for a set of "Excellent condition,68 Big Block HP Exhaust manifolds" ???

It just sucks to get ripped , I know because I too have bought & paid for items that never showed, That`s why it`s GREAT that this site has the "Trader Score" It`s just a matter of getting people to use it.

Since when is it a bad thing to send a US Postal Money Order. You get scammed, call the P.O. and file a Mail Fraud complaint. The POSG doesn't take to kindly to that and become a BIG felony. But Whatever?

Joey, the administrator on here, is just saying, be on the lookout for this type of message. It's happened lately by a new member. Not saying every new member would do this. It was a new member that did. It takes place on the Internet on all kinds of sites.

It don't work like that! I got scammed and the US PO was NO HELP. I even talked to the post master general. He said there is nothing they can do. I was scammed out of 1300.00. No one in the PO wants to stick their neck out. Just like the rest of the government in this country.

Or you can take a moment and re read what I said. I'm sure you will realize that you completely misunderstood what I was saying.

I think it just recently almost happened to me. This guy kept jacking me around and I wouldn't take a money order. Same thing - was a relatively new member. Lots of things raised red flags for me and never did the deal because of them.

Thanks for the good advice as I'm planning to find many parts on your site. I already found some really good pieces.

Beware of any seller who uses the word "shall" in an email between car guys, especially when discussing payment.

I just wanted to get the word out, I just received this response to my WTB post. If it weren’t for hard working car guy and gals getting ripped off, this would be hilarious, however, nothing makes me as mad as these parasites....

I am happy to report these crooks! Some are becoming excellent con artists, we all mush stay diligent. Thanks fir your help, and we do appreciate the time you guys dedicate to FBBO....Thanks

Real sorry to hear of the problems guys are having with scammers. I am trying to work a sale with a guy on here that got scammed out of several hundred dollars and after you get burned it really cuts deep. Hopefully we can rid ourselves of these bad apples and the rest of us work together to enjoy our hobby.

Exactly -- Just let me or one of the mods know if something looks fishy -- I do my best to catch these guys when they join the site, and often do. But now and then one slips by me...
