Rusty knuckles

I live in rural America and unfortunately (for the Chargers anyway) it's 2 miles of gravel road each way out and back home. Not something that will likely change in my lifetime. My 71 is in need of a repaint from an inexperienced body man paint job (a young and dumb me) which I'm going to do this winter, and my 69 I'd like to do up next winter. I'd like to do the best I can to protect the lower body from rock chips. The 71 due to wheels with probably less than ideal backspacing, and body lines really takes it in the shorts below the last seam in the rear quarter. The 69 doesn't appear as bad but appears to have some kind of painted chip protection at rocker panel height from the length of the car. It's definitely not original but looks ok (or maybe I'm just used to it). It looks something along the lines of a very thin coat of spray on bedliner that was painted with the rest of the car.
I'm wondering what others have used to protect against chipping. These aren't show cars and will never be. But I don't want the lower quarters sandblasted either. I found this product linked below. Anyone try anything like it?
