Guys I have my 1970 GTX 440 6pack pretty close after 2 years. It runs really good, I cant advance it too much or it will ping. 7-8 degrees

4 speed runs great, but nit picking.....it runs a little flat under 2k RPMs. Im constantly up shiffting to get the revs up around town and country roads etc.....

is this just the nature of the beast ? Over 2K its a dream...and the car explodes when hammered ...just a rocket...but low RPM kinda rough and weak.....you might even say...are you kidding ?

Just wondering if its a 50 year old STOCK car ...rebuilt...thats part of the picture !!

THANKS FOR YOUR INPUT

If 7-8 is your initial, that's too low.
15-20 will give it more low end.
You should be able to get 32-35 degrees total out of it.

jim while we are on it...you know anyone that curves these ? I used to have a guy for my AMX ...old timer, sent it to him...done $125

Buttttttt I called him...and age and health all done

To help with the detonation you sometimes can go with a colder plug...then mess with your dist curve and see what helps. Usually run a cold thermostat and blocking the heat risers in the intake helps but no choke then if the exhaust is blocked unless you do a electric choke. Anything you can do to get rid of heat from the engine compartment will help like Ceramic coatings or Header wrap. If you can help with the detonation you can run more timing and the engine will make more power across the entire rpm band and may even run cooler. If you are running open chamber iron heads it will like 36-38 total degrees of mechanical advance all in
..so 30 you have plenty taken out. Quench and closed chamber heads 32-34 usually makes peak power.

Definitely give Ray a jingle, also I would recommend getting a hold of Bob Karakashin, aka Mr.six pack for some TLC, he is sharp and super friendly ! I know I butchered his name... sorry

No I don't.
If I can ever score a smokin' deal on a Sun distributor machine, I would.
Replacing the spring should get you in the ballpark.

I can do it if needed. Check your vac advance first make sure it is good. Unfortunately a one year only electronic and not cheap if you can find it. Shoot me a message if needed.

Check craigslist they show up once in a while, but usually need to be repaired.
