losing my little buddy

I feel for you my friend. Over the decades I have had to put down horses, cattle, dogs... I have had dogs that I loved just like my children.
LIke said above, please consider another dog. It heals in a way nothing else can.

Someone smarter than me once said, something like "The man that has never known the love and devotion of a dog... there is a little piece of their soul they have never found."

While we are on the subject, has anyone seen the series that started with "A Dogs Purpose"? This is a must see for dog people.

When I get a pet I assume I will outlive it. I know that day will come so I make a point to remember that fact while the pet is still alive. My daughter is a vet nurse. I don't know how she handles it. I gave her number to a friend that had a very sick dog. She had to tell him it was time to let the dog go.

thank you to everyone, just got back from vet and buried Flash in his favorite spot over looking the pond.

I must say, given the circumstance i was very surprised with the vet's office. we arrived, called them to let them know we were there, they came out and and got Flash, took him inside for quick exam and brought him back out about 5 mins later, said we had 2 options, 1 try to treat the problem, but there were not very optimistic about it working, said MAYBE a 5-10 % chance, or we could euthanize. We had already decided it was time, so they left him with us for about 10 mins to spend a few mins with him, took him back in and gave him a shot to tranquilize him and brought him back out again and said when he falls asleep and your ready call us, we spent the next 15 mins holding and loving on him to he fell asleep, they came out again and took him back inside, and was back out in 10 mins , they had placed him in his favorite blankie and put him in a small cardboard coffin, and had taken a paw print on an index card for us to keep. they were very caring and compassionate, and what surprised me most was Flash HATED vets, always had to be muzzled to keep from biting them, they said he was very calm and very affectionate toward them . never acted out when i handed him over.

I know he is at peace now and no longer in pain... I just have to wait for my pain to subside, and be strong for my wife and kids, My son is taking it very hard.

again thank you to everyone here

Books
Baily's Story, Max's, Molly's, Toby's, Elly's, Lilly's story etc. etc. etc.
I bought them (set) for my older sister Candy
never did read them,
I did see the Movie "A Dogs Purpose" with Dennis Quaid
If I have the right flick,
Baily, Baily, Baily, kept coming back/reincarnated
as another puppy/dog, found his way back to an old GF & back to the farm

or is there a TV show based on it ?

Brother...There was a time in my life where I dedicated myself to cats and dogs...I've had so many it's crazy...I love old and sick ones...
I've put them down myself (old fashioned)...You may regret it...It's hard to see them that way...Overkill if you do...It's harder on you but easier on them...

But really...You can pay someone to drive to your place and give em a shot...If it's 1000 dollars whatever...Take out a loan...Hell...I mostly just lurk here and I'll send you some money if you need it for that...It's money you'll never regret spending...

Darn allergies!!!
RIP Flash

:(

well, this day is finally here, Flash, my best friend and little buddy is to the point, I have to put him down, been with me 11 years now. the worst thing is no vets will put him down ( we moved from fl to t about 11 months ago ) they wont take him ( would be a new patient ) due to Covid 19 fears, have told me I have to do it myself.. not sure i can do this. gave me 2 options, 1 the old fashioned way,or 2 mix tylenal pm and benadryl in his food and he will go to sleep, but he wont eat..
this is way harder than I expected it to be, who would have thought vets would abandon animals in need over the covid 19 thing. i have called the only mobile vet, and he said would be 2 weeks before he could come out
My god, I’m sorry my friend. I can’t imagine how hard this must be for you . People are ********

Gort,
I wanted to say a personal thank you. when this forum was created, it was geared towards a passion for cars, but it has morphed into a community that truly cares about each other, you dont find people that truly care about " strangers" anymore. thats why I love this place. I dont have FB or insta whatever.. to much drama and BS, but the people here are just plain ordinary good people that care about others.

Had to put my Angel down yesterday. Her hips were going, but yesterday was bad. Took her to the vets. Degenerative myelopathy in her hind quarters and her chest was loaded with cancer. We had no idea about that. 3 weeks ago, she was running around like nothing. I’ll never forget that look in her eyes. What a rotten ******* day.

I am so sorry to hear that . but, we will eventually forget the pain of loss, and end up with another companion in out lives because we crave the love they give

Oh geez. Hard to believe the vets are being so hard. My heart goes out to both of y'all as I know all too well what it's like to lose loved ones and think about the ones I've lost over the years. Tears in my eyes as I type....

Exactly, I guess the love they give, outweighs the pain in their loss. I sincerely hope, you and the family feel better.

we just went thru the same thing 2 months ago with our cat of 13 years. after going thru this with 2 prior cats, when she stopped eating, i knew it would not turn out well, vet says with this operation, there's a 70% chance we can save her, they called during the operation, never good, chance is now down to 5 %. pulled the plug, 6500.00 later..:( .

waited about a week and got another 1. after some reading best way to move on is get another....similar to, u know how u get over an ex girlfriend ? get on top of another...

Wow....very sorry to hear this jprather. Sounds like flash certainly lived a great life and hope he is resting easy! As a pet dad myself I can't even imagine having to go thru that but great to see so many people circle around and offer some inspiring words. Great group of people here!
