So my car is HOT as hell while cruising, I know the heater core has HOT water running through it all the time, can I safely put a valve before the core?
Will this help with interior heat?
There are two lines 5/8 and 1/2 , which one is the supply and return?
And any recomedation on what valve to use?

There would be no harm in putting a valve in. Doesn't matter what side, essentially the same pressure either way. It would help with the interior heat. The older cars had that valved and I find them to be more comfortable on hot days.

The water pump draws cooled water from the bottom of the radiator (hose) and pumps it through the block where the hot water exits at the thermostat, so the fitting closest to the thermostat would supply the hottest water to the core. It is the rear most fitting on a big block. This hoses actually crosses over and goes to the outside fitting on the core. I would place a valve in this hose.

I have one on my 65 and had one on my 64. Both mounted close to the firewall.
Try Four Seasons for the valve it is a screw type with a T handle. Local auto part stores should carry the brand.

I've got a similar one to that, only made out of high impact plastic something or other.
Bought it at the local NAPA. It has a specific application, I just forget for what....
It does help with the interior heat though. It's a ball valve type.
Off in summer, on in winter...
Now if I REALLY wanted to cut down on interior heat, I'd get rid of the #$%#$ 3" dual exhaust and headers! :)

I would suggest header rap for those headers. I have used them before and it really makes a difference on the heat both in the interior and engine bay. Especially for better performance with those carburetors naturally aspirated Carbs that hate heat especially in the summer.

Your heater hoses or not installed according to the diagram I posted,,,, Don't know if it matters much tho...

Sometimes it does - the valves usually control and shut off better depending on how the disc and seat are arranged. Usually better to shut against flow, vs shut with the flow.

why not just block off the hoses at the water pump with plugs?

I just bought a half inch heater valve for my 70 gtx, i am going to cut it in just before the core, hope it cuts down on the inside heat.
