'65 Coronet "Surf Wagon"

..and this jewel just arrived, a repop Max Wedge pan and pick-up:

Bitchin wagon. I hope to one day latch onto one for my honey and I. Preferably an early B so it can be alongside my 65 Coronet 500. Where is the Hops Capital?

inventory; I spent some time today going through the mini storage and laid my hands on the induction, rockers, and Stealth heads.

The 6 pack is a flea bay purchase a decade ago, service replacement carbs on a 383 intake. Likewise for the Crane rockers, untouched in the packaging. Bought the Stealth heads at MATs in Vegas 8 years ago.

If you don't use that manifold on a low deck stroker, thats worth some bucks or barter material.

Block is essentially bare, spent the morning finishing the tear down. Plan is to build a jig or guide to drill the passage from the main oil galley to the mains to improve oiling to the mains and rods. Photo shows a drill bit in the oil hole displaying the angle in question, with the larger bit used to drill out the oiling passages (from 440 source) laying on the pan rails.

Plan is to get the whole job to the machine shop early next week.

...and it’s off! To the machine shop that is.

Here’s the block riding in the back of the ‘65 Ford wagon just before we dropped it off. Machinist says I’ll get it back sometime in September. God bless him, he’s a great guy, but I’m not holding my breath.

Dug the v8 K frame out of storage this morning and spent some time with a BFH straightening the bend at the leading edge after this photo was taken. I think the donar car took on off road trip at some point:

Afterwards, I dropped the K frame off at a local powder coating shop. They quoted me $75 to sandblast and coat it semi-gloss black. Thought that sounded reasonable.

Also got this in the mail:

Nothing like getting parts in MOPAR boxes!

I might be out over my skis with this .509 cam, but it’s the one on 114 lobe centerline. I’m getting excited to put this together!

Groovy wagon! My wife's family lives in Prosser and Sunnyside/Outlook. It's beautiful out there!

Thanks! Well familiar with the area.

Last weekend the wife and I did a Naches/Moxee/Sunnyside/Topenish fruit stand run in the old 65 Ford wagon. Picked up some fabulous peaches, fresh corn, apples and some small kitchen pasta sauce that was to die for. Might do the wine tasting run this coming weekend. All things I like about Yakima county.

Finally! News from my machine shop! Looks like progress is being made, they sent me these shots and we talked on the phone:

Looks like it’s coming together nicely, and hoping to pick it up next week!

Short block is home! I felt like I was 16 again, Van Halen playing, big block swinging from the hoist!

Sad part is it won’t be running before the snow hits...all good timelines usually slip right. Machine shop was swamped, and they did me a solid getting out the door. They have a ton of racer guys, both drag and circle track that are yearly, repeat customers. Guys like me do a motor about once a decade, so happy they stepped up. The owner has ‘30-something Dodge going together and I think he had a soft spot for my 65 wagon project. ;)
